How to access NextPVR remotely without Kodi?

Hi, I setup NextPVR as my backend and it works perfecty in the server laptop, and via Kodi+NextPVR addon in the clients. Using it primarily to view OTA live feeds.
The problem with this setup is, I need to have Kodi in all the client devices to access the live tv. That includes my ios devices, and unless I jailbreak those, I cant have Kodi installed there.
Then I heard that NextPVR can stream without Kodi, via a browser or via VLC. I am pretty much a newbie with all this, can someone give some guidance as to how to access nextpvr content outside Kodi using a browser or vlc? I know about http://yourmachinesip:8866, but all it brings up is the TV Guide, and the live stream option doesnt work there in my ipad. What should be done to access the content from nextpvr using clients within the network and in remote locations outside the network?

If you can get into the browser that is the first step. You probably need to set this in config.xml, it defaults to false

<AllowRemoteStreaming>true</AllowRemoteStreaming>

However there is no security on VLC so if you can do it, so can anyone else. API based client like Kodi and the browser are better options

There are NextPVR apps in the Apple store for iPad and for AppleTV ... (and also a NextPVR app in the the Google store for Android).
