The OSD in Kodi/knewc didn't work in Ubuntu from the get-go, before I tried sub's new DLLs.

No, the new DLLs did not help with the OSD issue under Ubuntu nor the crashing or video playback stopping. Ubuntu seemed better at first, but I think we were using it less because we were busy. After a few days we started seeing the same issues we had running Mint on the server, and since the OSD worked with Mint I switched it back.

In Mint I did change the priority of the tuners so it uses my HDHR tuners first, then the PVR 2250 and my wife hasn't mentioned any recording failures. I forgot to look for recording failures last night, but will do so when I get home this evening.

Thanks,
-Brad

I know I have posted this before but the crashing has never been fixed your recent logs might help sub.

I can't explain the OSD issue sub would probably need to log more info to find out where there could be an issue.

My $0.02, I would suggest the Ubuntu-OSD issue be given low priority, I think there are bigger fish to fry. The OSD works fine in Mint, and I'm wondering if it was caused by something I did during setup on Ubuntu anyway.

I just scanned through my server setup/installation notes over lunch to see how much time I thought it would take to try Ubuntu again from scratch and noticed a note I made. I had an issue getting the static IP address to "stick" with Ubuntu, definitely a PEBKAC issue. Looking at my sequence, the IP address of the server most likely changed after I installed NextPVR, I think it was set to DHCP @ NextPVR install. Do you think that could have anything to do with the OSD not working in Ubuntu? I don't know why that didn't click for me until now, perhaps because everything else seemed to function. From my notes I used Network Manager to setup a static IP address, but didn't delete the Auto Ethernet profile and Ubuntu picked Auto Ethernet on the next boot-up, after which I installed NextPVR (if my notes are correct). It wasn't until I tried to test a remote client that I realized the IP was set to DHCP. My note was a big reminder to delete the Auto Ethernet profile.

Thanks,
-Brad

@baj1 sub looked into the problem and after some analysis he and I agree it is a problem with Ubuntu (not Linux). If you have your Ubuntu system available I have a file that might fix things and could potentially solve some to crashing issues.

Ironically I just re-installed over that partition today with Mint-Mate v20 - and it has the same problem with no OSD/Blue Button function during playback on all clients.  It is Ubuntu-based, so it must be something different with the Ubuntu base versions used by Mint v19.3 (where it works) and v20 (where it doesn't).

I'd be happy to try any fixes you have.

Thanks!

It appears that there are NextPVR conflicts with a version of libgdiplus that is being distributed with current versions of Linux.  I agree with sub that the specific OSD issue is not NextPVR since compiles of the a more recent version of the file seems to work.

Attached is my compile the file of https://github.com/mono/libgdiplus/commits/master

To try it as sudo rename /usr/lib/libgdiplus.so.0.0.0  (the one with 3 zeroes) to something else and copy in the file in the attached, and then restart nextpvr-server.

There are many memory leaks addressed in the changelog which could be at least part of your crashing problem too.  libgdiplus is a good example of why Windows can make a better server as it has commercial support rather then depending on support from external project like mono.

I will continue to state the Ubuntu is a better for users who want Kodi support.

Thanks Martin, I'll give that a try, probably tomorrow.

If it works in Mint v20 I might run with it and see what happens.  If not I can reinstall Ubuntu v20 and try that, I've become pretty proficient at it and can have everything up and running in about an hour or so.

Thanks,
-Brad

I presume I only need to replace the libgdiplus.so.0.0.0 in /usr/lib and not the copies in the sub-folders?

Code:
/usr/lib$ ls -latr libgdi*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root      19 Feb 26  2020 libgdiplus.so.0 -> libgdiplus.so.0.0.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root      19 Feb 26  2020 libgdiplus.so -> libgdiplus.so.0.0.0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  534952 Mar  1 11:33 libgdiplus.so.0.0.0.orig
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2320392 Mar  1 11:34 libgdiplus.so.0.0.0
Server: Ryzen 5 3600 3.6GHz: 16GB RAM: ASRock Phantom D/RX570: SDD: 512GB HDDs: 5TB, 8TB, 8TB
