Hi am running NPVR as a Kodi backend. After a lot of automating bits and pieces and building a connection to an STB box, set up now works great...however, couple of issues:

1) Was working great last night. But when I got up this morning, first couple of streams I tried to play worked for a few seconds and then stopped. After that they would not play at all. To resolve I had to completely close down the NPVR server and web UI, reboot and then go back to Kodi. Works again after that. Are there some buffers or something that need flushing somewhere?
2) The EPG load in to Kodi as I have a lot of channels is extremely slow and during that initial period streams will not play properly. Is there anything that can be done to address this?

I should point out I am still on build Version: 5.0.1.200103, however will be upgrading soon. Aspiration for this set up is that it will be reliable enough that family members can also use it. Currently running on Windows 10, but have a Linux machine ready to roll, so will soon be migrating to that...

Your questions probably can't be answered without diagnosing the cause of the issues ... The cause of the issues probably can't be diagnosed without logs ... https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki/get-help

Please tell us the time that streams stopped and the time of the EPG load in Kodi so that we know where to look in the logs ... Thanks

Ok, I will pull all of that together. Was just asking in case there was some obvious/known situation in which this behaviour could arise that might have a quick fix...

Kodi posts need to be in the Kodi sub forum, and of course we need logs, but don't bother until you update to current NextPVR and preferably Kodi to Matrix.

For generalities

- many users feel they have to have all the channels available, in reality for big lists this is overkill and the lists can be pruned.

- if you keep Kodi running and schedule the daily EPG update in off hours there will be less impact on the system when you use it.

- if your extra is doing transcoding then it will need more CPU then traditional tuners. I expect your performance issue is here

-keeping the web UI and the system tray running can put additional an unnecessary load when the system is busy

This is using a Colossus card, so the extras thing is not a factor. will also close the UI and see if that makes a difference...with regards to the update, it does it upon loading in Kodi, so perhaps there is an EPG update I have not seen. Will upgrade and report back...

Kodi V19 does not necessarily load the EPG on startup.

If I close Kodi and reopen it 2 minutes later it says 'PVR starting' and then cycles very quickly from 1% to 100%...if I closed Kodi and reopened it an hour later though, it would go from 1% to 50% very quickly, then slow right down and start plodding through individual channels very slowly. If I nuked Kodi, or cleared down all the TV37 tables manually and reopened, then Kodi would crawl from 1% to 100%, flashing every channel name up in order as it processes guide data for them...is that normal? Ive had the same behaviour on Leia and Matrix...

If you nuke the database it is normal to do a full reload. Check the Kodi wiki for advancedsetting.xml to determine other timing. Leia always reloads on start, Matrix respect the settings.

I think advanced settings is the answer then as even if i dont nuke it and restart enough time will have elapsed that it will attempt some sort of lengthy reload...

As requested, I will start a new thread over on the Kodi forum for the Kodi bits. However some observations so far: 1) After upgrading to the latest version of NPVR, the channel load in seemed a lot faster. Did it in maybe 15-20 minutes. Could be my imagination though.
