Looks like it was some kind of issue between the router and the MVP. I didn't manage to solve it but I worked around the problem.
I installed a software DHCP server on by GBPVR server, switched off the DHCP server on the router and moved all my other machines to static IP addresses. Not ideal but all seems to work quite happily now.
