Is a desktop environment required on the Linux version?

Thinking about reinstalling everything (not having any problems, but I have a lot of orphaned files left over from years of experimenting).  I typically install Ubuntu Server now if I can, and avoid the GUI.  Will that work for NextPVR?

If you need h/w acceleration in ffmpeg getting VAAPI or QSV working might be a challenge in a server environment
