No, that is deliberately not ticked for other (more important) reasons. But these are not duplicate recordings, they are recordings I don't want in the first place. It would be handy to use the search function to view the complete list of a particular series and remove all of the episodes I don't want but I can't because they all appear again every day after an automatic update.

What is your definition of duplicate?

Sorry, that is just the way it works - it's considered a duplicate of a recently deleted recording, so doesn't get re-recorded. With this unticked, it will be rescheduled.

These aren't deleted recordings, they are episodes deleted from the pending list. Nor are they duplicates because there is nothing to compare it to. I delete them from the pending list and then after an automatic update I have to delete them from the pending list again. Each and evey time on multiple series. Is this really "just the way it works"?

Unfortunately you're stuck with it working that way if you don't have 'Avoid duplicate recordings where possible' ticked. Ultimately it's done this way to deal with this and more complicated scenarios that can occur.

With this option enabled (which is the default), cancelling the episode is effectively like saying "I don't want Family Guy S14E11" and it's maked as recently deleted, and wont be rescheduled. (whether it's at the same time as the episode you originally cancel, or if the broadcaster had moved it to a different time, or if it's repeated multiple times a week - like is common in the states).

With this option disabled, any airing of Family Guy is considered fair game to record and will be rescheduled each night (and might be at the same time you originally scheduled it, or some other time if the broadcaster has moved it to another time)

Sub's explanation is why I wanted your definition.

So with that option enabled, if you choose to not record the first showing of an episode knowing there are multiple repeats for it to record later, it won't record any of them?

If you are worried about conflicts make sure this recording is low priority and it will only record this if there is a free tuner.  The point is to record it as soon as possible.

Correct - with this enabled, if you cancel a specific episode, then it wont record any repeats of this specific episode. (for example, Family Guy S14E11)
