No worries, the installer doesn't create C:\temp. It could be IIS I am not sure but beyond suggesting you try installing the hosting bundle https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/do...-installer I am out of ideas.

With that now running, when you try to view the webpage and get the 500 error, does a new error get added to the bottom of that NextPVRServer.exe window?

OK. I just downloaded that bundle. If I install it, what will it do to my PC? Might it undo anything else?

Well, astoundingly, we have progress!

I stopped the NextPVR Service, and in the Command window ran NextPVRServer.exe. This time there were no red error messages. I then opened a browser window and entered 127.0.0.1:8866. A whole bunch of lines were added to the bottom of the Command window, and then NextPVR opened in the browser window normally. There was no error message!

The N icon in the Systray has turned green, but of course the NextPVR Service is still stopped. I guess I should now start that?

The red message was from your old config.xml Yes kill the command line with ctrl-c and see if the service starts.

Well, that was short-lived.  The Systray icon has turned gray again, and now the error messages in the browser are back, although slightly different.  Chrome now says this . . .

Is that with it running as service? and running in a command prompt works?

I'm guessing it's something firewall/antivirus related, like it's trying to popup a window to ask for permissions in the hidden service desktop session.

I have found that if I stop the NextPVR service, open a Command window, run NextPVRServer.exe, and then run 127.0.0.1:8866 in a Chrome window, it works again. It takes me to the login screen for Admin, I just hit enter, and the normal NextPVR index.html screen loads. But, if I then end NextPVRServer.exe by using Ctrl-C, the NextPVR service does not start automatically. I have to restart it manually. After that, I cannot open 127.0.0.1:8866 in any other browser, and if I click Ctrl-F5 in Chrome, I get the error message there as well. So, it appears the NextPVR web client will not continue to run once NextPVRServer.exe has been closed.
