I am a long time BeyondTV user.  I know one day it will no longer work in a future version of Windows 10/11. I have to jump through hoops as it stands now to install it fresh.

I am 80-90% sure I will be using NextPVR v5 as my next PVR Wink  .

Since I am new to NextPVR, I have a question about OTA TV scheduling and recording.

BeyondTV has a recording behavior where the start and end times are more a recording window then a start time and end time. That way, if for some reason, the recording service gets restarted the recording begins again as long at its still within the recording window. The file name recorded to is appended with a sequential number.

How does NextPVR handle this scenario, TV shows starts at 8pm and ends at 9pm. The recording started as scheduled at 8pm, but the computer or recording service gets restarted for some unforeseen reason at 8:30pm. Does NextPVR start the recording again when the computer is back up and running (since the recording window is still between 8pm and 9pm)?

NextPVR does pretty much the same thing. If you restart the machine during a recording, it'll start a recording new file when it comes back up. Both will be listed in the recordings screen.

That is great news. I have had times where I had to restart my computer at times (e.g. TV card receiving no signal, fix an issue unrelated to OTA recording, etc.). Thanks for the quick reply.

What is NextPVR’s behavior in this scenario?

- You have 1 digital tuner
- You have 3 mins Pre & post paddings in general settings
- Show1 starts at 8pm and end at 9pm, Ch4
- Show2 starts at 9pm and ends at 10pm, Ch5

When does Show 2 start recording (9:00pm, 8:57pm, 9:03pm)?

I am hoping it at 9pm (the padding is not used because of back to back recordings).

Padding is considered desireable, but is ultimately at the mercy of available tuners.

Quote:- You have 1 digital tuner

- Show2 starts at 9pm and ends at 10pm, Ch5
With a single tuner, show one would start at 7:57 and record until 9:00. Show 2 would start at 9:00 and record until 10:03

Thanks, exactly what I was hoping.

If you had two tuners then is it save to say the following?

Show1 would start at 7:57 and end at 9:03
Show2 would start at 8:57 and end at 10:03
Each show using a different tuner.
