On NextPVR.exe and UI clients it would be very helpful if the Play button on a recording resumed instead of playing from the start and losing the resume position.  Resume which I figure is the most common use, is a four stroke (enter, down, down, enter) operation.

I think I have already made a related wishlist to see the order on the recording playback menu change to.

Resume  (when applicable)
Play
...
Close

since most of us probably use back to close dialogs.

I'm not sure I'd want to change the position of the Close button - I use that all the time.

I am happy to put Resume above Play though.

Ok but what about defaulting to resume on the play button, then the menu doesn't have to change.

Right on the play key. I rarely want to restart a recording but when I do the menu makes sense, which is why the current menu would be ok.

Just my 2 cents. When I press Play on my remote on a partially watched recording, usually my intention is to resume where I left off. It took me a while to stop doing this inadvertently because of the current behavior to restart playback.
When I watch an external recording in my NPVR Videos recordings, NPVR asks if I want to resume or start over when I press play on a previously watched recording.
So asking if I want to Resume or start over in the Recordings seems like a good way to solve this without guessing what my intention is.

However, I'll be happy if Play simply resumes.

Is it something that could be configured by the user in config.xml: Play always plays, Play always resumes or Play asks each time
Tuners: SD HDHR Prime (HDHR3-CC). SD HDHR Connect Quatro Tuner (HDHR5-4US) - only QAM.  EXVIST H.265 Encoder - capturing cable box.
Client: Odroid-N2 running knewc on KODI - connected via MoCA.
EPG: SchedulesDirect
Provider: Verizon Fios
Server: Dell XPS 8700 with Windows 10

Recording play is different from the Video Library resume, in the library you might as well hit enter twice and avoid switching keys. Whatever the solution, not losing resume points is my real wish but if there is a popup play/play should resume.

In Recordings I always use the menu to play (don't ask me it is just how I always have done it) & have always thought (cursed quite a number of times over the years) that if there is a resume point then Resume should display at the top of the options.
