NextPVR version 5.2.3.211114 Desktop app hangs with ...please wait... message when a current TV program is selected from the TV Guide after selecting Watch. The status icon goes red and the Sow Status shows the tuner device is providing a Live TV stream to a .ts file.

I have tried shutting down Windows 10 and reloading it and the problem persists. NextPVR worked fine until yesterday when I had to uninstall it and reinstall it because the desktop app lost the tuner device.

I use a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse, the receiver attached via USB to my new laptop. When I first installed NextPVR on the new laptop, I didn't have this problem, so, while I could remove my wireless mouse and keyboard and revert to using the laptop devices, I don't think it would solve the issue. Furthermore, NextPVR worked fine (and still does) on my old laptop, the only problem being that it was somewhat underpowered to cope with recording and other applications at the same time. Hence the new laptop.

Interestingly, when I use the desktop app to try to launch live TV, while NextPVR hangs with "...please wait...", the status window shows that it is connected. I think there is either a bug in NextPVR or something is missing in the installation that launches the viewer from the desktop application. I did previously lose the Hauppauge tuner from the application on the new laptop and I had to uninstall and reinstall NextPVR. I never found out why that happened.

I didn't mean permanently sometime is generating a log of SPAM making it difficult to diagnose the problem so I meant this to be temporay. It could even be laptop's touch pad.

It looks like you've got it configured to use the LAV decoders, but have maybe uninstalled them.

Try reinstalling these decoders, and hopefully it'll start working again.

The official installer can be found here:

My thanks to all for your comments.

I'll look into the decoder configuration. Since I uninstalled and reinstalled NextPVR I would have expected it to have a configuration that worked, including any necessary decoders. I'm pretty sure I have other decoders it could use. I do a fair amount of audio and video editing and media conversion. Watch this space for an update as and when I have time to play around with the configuration.

NextPVR does not install any decoders. (since we'd have to pay patent and licensing costs if you were doing it entirely legally... and that's too rich for this $0 software)

Instead it just relies on you installing you supplying your own decoders, or reusing those that are already on your machine.

The LAV decoders are some of the most widely used and trusted decoders:

I installed the LAV decoders and that seems to have solved the problem, so thanks for that suggestion. I must admit I have never come across these before.

Interestingly, looking at the Client Settings/Decoders, previously the H.264 Video and AAC Audio were both configured to use the corresponding Microsoft DTV-DVD decoders and all the rest were Disabled. Now, all the Disabled decoders have changed to the corresponding LAV decoder. I could have manually configured all but the HEVC Video and the E-AC3 Audio decoders to use the corresponding Microsoft decoder. I don't know whether this would have fixed the problem or not.

Anyway, the LAV decoders work, so thanks again for the suggestion.
