Just thought I'd share this because I am happy it got it to work and somebody else may want to try it too.

Just hooked up my MVP to a Linksys WRT54G router in the bedroom.
Another WRT54G is downstairs in the garage (internet gateway & wired connection to GBPVR PC).

Bedroom router is flashed with DD-WRT 23Beta (http://www.dd-wrt.com/) and running the Client Bridge mode connecting it to the Garage router.

This means the ethernet ports of both routers are bridged over the wireless interface.

Works like a charm !

DD-WRT even allows you to increase the transmit power of the wireless by up to 900%.
I now have wireless reception with my laptop in the back of the garden from the garage router.

Thanks for the link! I have a unused linksys G router at home, guess it won't be unused for long Smile This is also pretty sweet because the bridges I've seen for sale cost $120.

One question on IP. I already have my home router configured for static addressing, not DHCP. So if I set the linksys box (that is now the bridge) to 192.168.1.200 for example. Is there any other setting on the linksys (bridge) box or on the MVP to allow the MVP to work with this bridge?

Thanks.

I'm not specifically familiar with this firmware, but if it works like a normal bridge there shouldn't be any special setting on the bridge or MVP to make it work. My MVP works fine on a wireless bridge.

(FYI, if you're familiar with them, a Prismiq does NOT work on a bridge though... why, their own tech support can't explain.)

There are some other Bridge Solutions for Linksys WRT54G using Sveasoft and HyperWRT firmware (the latter which I use at it stays close to the Linksys Code) which I stuffed into the wiki a month or two back, which you might want to flick through too.

See http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manual/MVP (Down below "I like the dea of wireless ... "

Cheers

I thought I'd add an update to this. I tried the DD-WRT 23Beta firmware that multirotor suggested http://www.dd-wrt.com/ and it works like a champ. Previously I tried the Sveasoft Alchemy pre-releases and just gave up after dealing with their unreliability. My WRT54g was sitting unused because I wanted either a router with static DHCP or a wireless bridge with multiple ports, neither possible with the standard linksys firmware. It's unused no more.

I put mine in Bridge Client mode and it works great. Completely reliable for the last week, and you can even turn the WAN port into a normal bridged ethernet port if you want 5 ports instead of 4.

Thanks for the suggestion, multirotor.

Just thought I'd update on the HyperWRT firmware.

The latest versions at http://www.hyperwrt.org/forum/viewforum.php?id=15 also support Static DHCP.

arrrggg!!!! can some one help me please.

i just got my mvp through the post today.
just plugged it into my wireless linksys WRT54G router, installed the supplied software on the wireless pc upstairs (just wanted to check it worked before using gbpvr).

now here is the problem.....i was expecting everything to pretty much be plug and play..........but it doesnt work.

the mvp boots up on the tv... now there are 5 bars at the bottom. three of them are blue and two of them are white. this is as far as i can get.

i have disabled all firewalls, and tried messing about with different settings on the router....(ps i am using sveasoft on my router)....

does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried to get it working with a hard wired network connection to your PC? It could rule out a whole raft of problems!
