Hi All, I need some guidance:

I have a Chromebox CN62 that has been used to host libreelec, Kodi, Tvheadend for a few years.  I would like to repurpose that Chromebox and use NextPVR to record NTSC on WinTV Dual HD USB tuner and save recordings on Synology DiskStation NAS.  The libreelec currently on the box is pretty messed up so I'd like to do a clean install from scratch.

1. What is minimum linux distro that should be installed to support PVR functionality, with minimal overhead? (i.e. no docker, kodi etc. if possible)
2. Are there any good guides for installing linux and NextPVR on Chromebox? (I have basic, but limited libreelec/kodi tvheadend experience)

I did spend some hours reading forum entries; please excuse if this is an ignorant request.

Thanks,
Dave

Hopefully you mean ATSC. If you are comfortable using command line and ssh any headless Linux that you find that you can install on the Chromebox will work, Debian based would be recommended to make the install easier. A Chromebox is not a typical x64 computer so I cant' guide you further.

For simplicity since the guides are well writen I would suggest you reinstall LE10 and install this package https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid567467 that should load everything for you need except the ATSC tuning information. When you get that installed I can help your further.

If you aren't using Kodi what will you use for a client?

Thanks Martin!

I found the Kodi client to be a little klunky and had trouble with the underlying media libraries. I have played around with Plex client running on Roku. Easy for the family to use since Roku is what is primaryily used for tv and music in our house.

Pardon my lack of knowlege, would Ubuntu be ok for the easier install of NextPVR that you referenced? You mentioned Debian based; is Ubuntu considered Debian based for this purpose?

Yes Ubuntu is Debian based, if you can find a guide on how to install Ubuntu it should be fine but it will take a bit of work. The zip on LE even if you don't use Kodi will take much less time to assemble.

Also when you are using PVR you don't have to use Kodi libraries, but my point was how to you plan on watching NextPVR live TV and Recordings? There is a Roku client for NextPVR but it might stop working in a month or so. Many Roku client don't play AC3 which can also be an issue in the US.
