atsc channel numbers

Just updated to v6. Thanks for all of your hard work. I was thinking for my hauppauge wintv clear qam tuners, it would be great if nextpvr displayed the atsc channel numbers instead of randomly assigning a channel. Thanks.

With Clear QAM broadcasts most metadata about channels in North America, including names and channel numbers are optional, the majority of cable companies don't include them, so there is no channel numbers to show.

not really looking for metadata, just looking for atsc channel numbers auch as 2-1, 5-1, 7-1, 21-2. Thanks.

That is one of the parts of the metadata. Channel number and channel names are optional with digital cable in North America, and almost always missing. The cable boxes don't get the names/numbers from the stream, and instead have a special out-of-band frequency that is used for STB control and entitlement control (which channels are enabled/disabled etc).

so is there any way to use them on a conditional basis ie: if present.

I’m fairly sure if they’re present, it’ll use them. ie, it’s not something you need to turn on.

Well, when I hook up the coax cable directly to my tv it has them, but nextpvr does not use them with my hauppauge pcie wintv-quad.

Does the WinTV software show the channel numbers?

Do a scan, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Are you talking about ATSC from an antenna, or Clear QAM (digital cable)? You mention clear qam in the first post, so I was assuming you were talking digital cable.

in wintv there are a lot less unknown channels but on the unknown channels, it does say the atsc channel number. on the rest it gives a name. I have attached the logs.
