I had not updated from 4.2.5 for a long time, because I didn't get any notice of updates past that.  Then I saw that it was up to version 6 and updated, but now it will not open several menu items on the Windows Desktop Client.  TV Listings, TV Recordings, Trailers, Volume and Weather will not open on pushing the Enter key or clicking with the mouse.
Live TV, What's New, Search, Scheduler, DVD, and Exit all work when I use the Enter Key and clicking with the mouse.
On the Web App, though, everything is working fine.  I can see guide and recordings just fine.
I'll post on Kodi's forum about this particular problem, since it is on Kodi 20 beta, but the guide is blank (grey bars for each channel but no listings) for all channels on Kodi when I open that.

Logs attached.  Thanks for any help.

It is a completely new program not a version upgrade so there is no migration and there is no no addon support.

Don't bother posting on the Kodi forum, you probably just need to clear data after the major backend update. Note use the web page to download the zip file for you, manual zipping doesn't get the current logs.

Thanks for the quick fix on Kodi; clearing data fixed the guide issue.
Here are the logs downloaded from the web app.

Ok great. We don't really need the logs now though since you just need to manually clean up config.xml to get rid of the addons

As Martin say, v5 and above are effectively a different application to v4. With this version, I changed the technology used behind the scenes to enable it to be run on other platforms like Linux/MacOS/Windows/Docker. This was a big change, and old plugins written for earlier versions were no longer compatible with how NextPVR works. I decided to not bother with plugins in v5 and above, since it'd need the original plugin develop to comeback and redevelop their plugins...and very few people ever used the plugins in the first place.

I'm still not sure how to manually get rid of the addons in config.xml
In <MenuLayout> there are two TV Recordings listings, but one is enabled="true" and the other ="false". TV Guide is "false" but TV Listings is "true". Is there where I change that? Should I attach config.xml here?
Thank you.

I'm not sure why you've still got the menu options there. It shouldn't be listing them

Did you uninstall v4 when you installed v6? It's not an in place upgrade, and is effectively a new app. I'm wondering if you've got both versions installed.

ie, if you look in the Windows 'Programs and Features' or whatever it's called, do you see NextPVR installed twice?

Also, make sure that when you're running the Windows desktop client, that you are running the new V6 one not the old V4 one. I believe that on a standard V6 installation, it should be "C:\Program Files\NextPVR\client\NextPVR.exe".

Here's what I did:
Sometime last year (I don't remember when)--I found out that v5 existed, so I installed that, but it didn't really work; the desktop client said it attempted too many redirections.  But v4 still worked fine, so I just let them both run but only really used v4, as a Kodi backend. Everything was working fine in v4 and Kodi.
Last week--decided to update to Kodi 20 beta, that said the NextPVR backend addon could not work with anything below v5.  So I updated to current NextPVR version 6.  I tried to follow the update upgrade instructions here on the Wiki but that didn't work either.  Same too many redirections issue.
So I used Revo Uninstaller to remove all instances of NextPVR, but I believe there was an option to remove the program but not the user data, so I selected that.  I also didn't use Revo Uninstaller's capabilities to remove registry entries and leftover files, wanting to keep the user data.
Then I installed NextPVR current version 6 and was able to get through to the point I am at now:
Next PVR
  • desktop client--some menu items work, others do not.
  • Web app--working just fine, though in my changing config.xml Ports to 8869 as suggested in update upgrade wiki, it cannot be found if I change it back to 8866, working only as 8869
[*]Kodi
  • TV Guide is back to blank bars for all channels; clearing data was not a permanent solution but can select channels
