Sub really did a good job on the web UI it is a good client, especially for desktop use. I certainly prefer it for scheduling and searching.
The advantages to direct play are on playback, especially recordings. Live TV will start in seconds, you can quickly change channels by number and skipping in Live TV and recordings, by exact time for resume etc are all very snappy giving a real STB experience. The lowered CPU/GPU should also be readily apparent. The quality of the transcoded audio and video will never be as good as you get from the native streams and the defaults are for performance.
