Both are adjustable but I am not at my main machine right now to tell you how. You have to do some easy file editing on the config.xml file to get it like you like it. There is a plugin for fixing the screen size etc. I have not used it but it should work. Try this link to the wiki site. http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Plugi...enPosition
The brightness of the recording can be changed by editing the direct.ini file (if I remember correctly) This will increase the brightness for all recordings, not just what you see on the MVP. I only use the MVP to watch stuff so it is no big deal to me. I looks fine on my PC monitor. I set the brightness from "auto" to 75. Other recording parameters are also there. I hope this helps. I will try to verify the files tonight.

When I set my brightness to 75 the picture looked washed out. Black was no longer black. I downloaded the plugin utility HauppaugeTweakTool and was able to make more adjustments easier than editing file. Brightness, contrast, saturation, etc.

You're usually better off leaving brighness on auto and adjusting contrast SLIGHTLY lower. Otherwise, your bright whites will get washed out and your blacks will be grays.

I, too, recommend the Hauppauge tweak tool. But dont' forget to click the checkboxes next the changed settings otherwise pressing the save button won't do anything!

I have not played with the tweak tools yet. They may offer you more changes. I have found though on my setup that resetting from auto to 75 gives me good results and not washed out blacks. It is likely how my TV is set up. The file you edit is the direct.ini file in the GBPVR directory. You can edit it with notepad. (then save it) That's the fun of GBPVR, there are lots of ways to tweak things and lots of people share their ideas!

Just FYI, the Hauppauge tweak tools don't edit the direct.ini file. So after you're done tweaking around in the tools, don't think that if you view the direct.ini file and see that everything is still set to "Auto" that it isn't working.

The tweak tools offer some pretty significant options for modifying the way your Hauppauge cards do their business, especially the PVR150 and PVR500.

I don't have the remote in front of me, but I believe after pressing the numbers you have to press the OK (or is it Enter?) button.

Are you using the MVPScreenPosition Plugin to help with the position/screen size? You can find it here: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Plugi...enPosition

It's not entirely clear on what you need to actually adjust the screen. You use Config to add the plugin like normal, then you run GBPVR on your MVP, select the plugin, position/change the size of the screen using your MVP remote, write down the correct settings, then go back to the Config app on your computer, go to the Plugins tab, highlight the MVPScreenPosition plugin in the list of plugins, choose settings, and that's where you actually change the position/size/etc.

Once you finally figure out how to use it, it works great and is extremely useful. Otherwise, you'd be doing a lot of trial and error, probably editing some INI file, initially making guesses at what the numbers should be.

I have not had much luck with the tweak tool, I have my brightness set to 68 in the direct.ini, and it looks good. I would prefer to get it set with the tweak tool, and put direct.ini back to auto. That way I don't have to remember everytime I upgrade.
