I just ran the test with 10 randomly selected channels, on average it took 15 seconds to show in VLC, with the longest being 18s and shortest 13s.

I've added a <M3U8DownloadTimeout> setting in config.xml for the next release. The default is 8000ms.

Is that for ffmpeg and the internal downloader?  I am surprised the internal download never was used on h264/aac streams.

Awesome! I'll keep a watch out for the next release.

It's timeout is only on the internal m3u8 downloader.

The ffmpeg you saw was the web app asking for the transcoded stream. It eventually received back a 404 when the internal downloader timed out.

OK got it know, I am actually surprised that this hasn't been a much bigger issue.

Code:
2023-06-23 15:51:47.986    [DEBUG][46]    M3U8 (http://192.168.144.249:8089/.../master.m3u8?....  [Jmw0ZfcWEjMuBdmCW2gcrrw3S+
2023-06-23 15:51:47.987    [DEBUG][46]    Checking m3u8 stream (http://192.168.144.249:8089/.../master.m3u8?....
2023-06-23 15:51:54.978    [ERROR][46]    Unable to StartStream(): One or more errors occurred. (A task was canceled.)

Most m3u8 streams are accessible much quicker than that, so it hasn't been a problem. It's rare to come across one that doesn't exist until after some other stuff happens.

If I wanted to add this setting to my config.xml ahead of time in preparation for the next release, what section should I put it in?
Or would I be better just waiting and let it get added automatically?

Side note, and sorry for this probably dumb question, how will I know when the next release comes and is available for download? Or does it update automatically?

Thanks for all the help!

It's in the <General> section. Not really worth adding it until the release comes out.

We're almost ready on a next release. Hopefully within the next week.

It doesn't update automatically. You need to rerun the installer to update.

I know it's been over a month, but I just wanted to "close the loop" on this. I've been running NextPVR with the update and set the timeout to 30 seconds (intentionally absurdly long) and everything has been working GREAT. Thanks for awesome work!
