This sort of thing happens to me on a somewhat regular basis, random enuf to be upsetting as I worry I can't rely on recordings happening.

Several failed recordings over a few days:  [Failed: No errors, but no data delivered. This is usually because the device failed to lock a signal.]

Logs attached.

I just switched Silicon Dust tuners recently, but I'm on the latest software and firmware for them. My antenna strength was good as I was watching some of these shows at the time recording was not happening.

Help or advice appreciated.

Also, steps I have taken to try to fix this:

1. Made sure all instances of OLD tuner were deleted from devices.
2. Deleted channels and re-scanned devices.
3. Set two recordings for tonight, after the above to see if things work out.

cheers,

Well none of that worked. I scheduled two new recordings after making the changes and they BOTH failed with the error: [Failed: HDHR stream not available]

These were attempted recordings on my two HDHR DEVICES (the two tuners on my SiliconDust HDHomerun Connect (HDHR4-2US). Confused as I was able to make recordings with this setup just last week.

And now I am trying to watch LIVE TV on the desktop app and getting the error: UNABLE TO FIND AVAILABLE CAPTURE DEVICE
I try to watch it on the Web interface and get the error: Streaming Failed (Transcoder Exited).

New logs attached. I'm afraid I've mangled my system now.

The HDHomerun Connect *IS* working in the SiliconDust app. So I know there is a good signal and I can watch live TV on that and I see the lights light up on the tuner to indicate its got a signal and sending it to that app.

And the saga continues. I made sure to restart the entire system. I then made sure the Next PVR service was running in services, just to be sure.

And I was able to connect to my HD Homerun Connect via BOTH the web and desktop interfaces, and watch live tv. So that is good.

I then scheduled two recordings and I am watching the device and the lights for both tunes have lit up and both shows on 2 different channels *appeared*to be recording, according to NextPVR and the tuner device.
But that was not true. Once show failed, with the annoying error (again!!) [Failed: HDHR stream not available] , but the other show is recording. What is really odd is that I am seeing both tuner lights lit up on my device. One is a blinking light, which usually indicates recording, while the other is a solid light, which I don't think is right.

All of these errors only started last week, after the device was working fine with not problems for a month since installed. So i don't know what is going on with it!

More logs attached.

Any advice on all of this is appreciated and welcome. I'm starting to lose my mind with this! I am now considering uninstalling nextpvr completely and rebuilding from scratch. Thoughts?

I have an additional 2 attempted recordings set for this AM. If it goes like the last set (one records, one fails); I am going to wonder if it is not a problem with the HDHomerun device. *sigh* I have like 2 days to request a return if it so I may have to reinstall my older tuner device to try and record two shows at the same time and see.

Lou

Why are you mixing HDHR mode and ATSC/QAM (BDA) mode?

Hiya, thanks for the reply!

I am not sure what you mean by "mixing HDHR mode and ATSC/QAM (BDA) mode"?

When I scanned my new device (Silicondust HD Homerun Connect) it populated the "Device list" with 7 devices: an HDHR, ATSC and QAM device for each of the two tuners and an IPTV device. See image.

I then moved the two HDHR devices to the top of the list, scanned one for channels, copied the channels to the other and went on my merry way. I am not "mixing them" in that I have not populated or used those other devices; I was only asking, as the HDHR channels were failing, if maybe I should. By your response it sounds like the answer is no. Should I delete those devices from the device list?

cheers,

Lou

An update to my predicament: the two recordings I scheduled overnight completed successfully! I watched as both shows began recording, and this time one did not fail, and I left them to it and this morning when I checked it seems BOTH recordings completed. So that is some progress!

I will schedule a couple more this am to test again; and I'll await Martin's response about deleting the unused devices in my device list. That was never a problem with my old Silicondust tuner, but I'm happy to do it if it makes things run smoothly.

cheers,

In HDHR mode you don't scan in NextPVR, you scan with the Silicondust utilities. Turns out you started a BDA QAM scan here though

2024-03-06 01:45:13.127 [DEBUG][34] Got request [127.0.0.1]: /services/service (setting.scan.start)

and then NextPVR tried to record two shows while the scan was continuing.

2024-03-06 01:58:00.341 [DEBUG][10] About to start recording (6837 on 28): D:\Recorded TV\3rd Rock From the Sun\Season 03\3rd.Rock.From.the.Sun.S03E23.Dick.and.the.Other.Guy.ts

2024-03-06 01:58:04.632 [DEBUG][10] About to start recording (6838 on 27): D:\Recorded TV\Cindy Crawford and Ellen Pompeo share secrets\Cindy Crawford and Ellen Pompeo share secrets_20240306_02000230.ts

and then the BDA scan finished around here

2024-03-06 02:01:32.640 [DEBUG][38] Stopping handles from last frequency

So basically the scan was using one of your tuners so one recoring failed

2024-03-06 01:58:04.648 [DEBUG][10] WebException: System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (503) Service Unavailable.

OK I do not recall starting a scan on a non-HDHR device, but it *was* like 2-3am in the morning so I might have had a stray click, which would explain why I was not aware a scan was happening. I could have thought I was scanning the HDHR one and mis-clicked on the QAM one. That was *many* iterations into my trouble shooting over several hours, so user error could be a likely happening for that one recording failure. Thanks for that catching that and for that explanation, appreciated.

Not sure about all the other failures though, so I will keep plugging away at troubleshooting, if folx can help!

You said: "In HDHR mode you don't scan in NextPVR, you scan with the Silicondust utilities."

Questions: I did scan in the Silicondust utility before doing so in the NextPVR interface. If I should not have done both, what should I do now?
Delete the channels in the HDHR devices and rely on the SD channel tuning?
Delete all the devices and start again?

Very much appreciate the help, just looking for solutions to get me up and running again.

ALSO AN UPDATE: The next two recordings I scheduled appear to be working fine. I picked random shows on random channels as I did before, and they both began and continued recording. One has completed successfully and is almost done. More progress!

cheers,

The QAM scan in NextPVR won't matter since you didn't save it.

Once you have a good scan with the SD utility (during this scan a tuner is in use so recordings could fail) to ensure everything is in sync.

- remove all channels from both HDHR tuners with the trash can when you click the device (don't delete the device)
- scan tuner 0 and add the channels you want
- scan tuner 1 and copy when prompted.

Merged tuners always need to be updated that what way.
