Guys,

I've had GBPVR on my PC for at least 9 months, and it's been working fairly well up until the last month. I've wiped my HDD and started again and now I can't get MVP to work with GPPVR. I've since re-installed XP again

My basic setup is this, GBPVR v09413, XP SP2 (firewall disabled) 2.4G Athon, 385mb RAM, PVR350, MVP all connected to switch, two other PC's on statics and a broadband router connected. Router IP is 192.168.0.1, PC that's on all the time is 192.168.0.3, The router has a DHCP server.

I've tested the connection with Hauppauge MVP software and it works fine, although it's not a patch on GBPVR. So I disable the servces and enable 1 MVP and still get the 3 bars on the first screen.

What am I doing wrong? It's been working fine. Can someone help me diagnose the problem. It's really getting on my nerves now

Done that.
I've reset GBPVR service more times than I care to mention. I've also reset MVP, PC, switch and routers all at various times.

Short of an idiots guide what do I need to enable, so I can double check.

Three bars does seem to indicate it's failing at a network level (DHCP maybe). As you say you've sucesfully got the hauppuage software working, how about this.

1. Stop GBPVR Service
2. Startup (and enble) HP services
3. Once your MVP has booted and is running the HP software, stop the HP services.
4. Start GBPVR service - without power cycling the MVP.

This may indictae whether or not you have a problem allocating the MVP an IP address.

Ok I'll give anything a go, I can configure my router to allocate any range of IP addresses, Some time ago I did try and change the gateway address from 192.168.0.1 because I read somewhere this may be the same address the MVP wants to have, but that didn't work either.... I'm quite prepared to try anything again.

Make sure your router is configured to dish out IP addresses on the same subnet as your GBPVR box. In your case, that's 192.168.0.xxx (assuming you're using a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0).

I had a somewhat similar problem and this is what I did to fix it...
First make sure all of the mediamvp services are turned off in the service menu.
Next go to the MediaMvp folder in the start menu and click on the stop icon. This is in the hauppauge folder not the GBPVR folder. Then go into the GBPVR config prog and restart and you should be golden.

Enjoy,

Thanks bluesxman that worked, I've got GBPVR on my MVP for the first time in months . So what's the next step. My router is lousy at issuing IP addresses. What else can I do to dig deeper, how do I find out what address it's issued when using the GBPVR s/w, My router has a page of "active users" but never shows MVP.

If I reset i guess I be back to square 1

Not sure what to suggest now other to double-check your router config and to disable any firewalls (you mention the XP one do you have another installed?). You are saying it did work previously with this router?

Depending on your technical ability you might want to give a network monitor like ethereal a go to see if throws out any clues as to why it isn't getting an IP address.

If you don't get anywhere, it may be worth considering installing a DHCP server on your PC, not elegant but it would work.

And yes, turning off the power (I don't mean putting it into standby via the remote) will send you back to square one!

I'll have a double check of firewalls etc, and yes I'm saying it did work on this router before. I'm about to default the config of the router. I supected the cheap 8port switch I had but since swapped it back to my old 4 port and still have the same issue.

My router setup has changed a little, I work as a Network Support engineer for a video over IP company, so I've been guilty of experimenting in the past. See what happens tomorrow.

I may try a DHCP server, to confirm where the problem is. Thanks for your help up to now.
