Is there a way to undelete a video file that was deleted from within GBPVR?

I have an undelete tool but all it can find is the deleted folder that contained the video and the comskip text file, it doesn't find the .MPG file.

Does GBPVR do something different when it deletes files then when you delete it from within explorer.

Help,

Sorry, but I think you're out of luck.

I just call the standard .net File.Delete() method, which I dont think goes via the recycling bin.

Sub,

Doesn't a standard delete just get rid of the first character of the file name? I thought the data is still there as long as you get to it before something overwrites it. This appears to be the case for the folder and the comskip.txt file that gets deleted, using the undelete utility I have I can find these items, just not the actual .MPG file.

Oh well, I guess I just need to be more carefull when looking through available recordings!!

Thanks for the reply and this great software!!

File.Delete() just deletes the file. It doesnt go to the recycling bin.

Sure, its probably still on disk somewhere if you're lucky. I dont know how you'd get it back though.

Strangely enough, I did the exact same thing last night! The recovery software I used couldn't find any trace.

Sub, would you consider adding an option to send deleted files to the recycle bin?

xrecord has a recycler included. When you do a "delete" and the recycler is active it moves it to a recycled directory (not the recycled bin). We do this for a couple of reasons. One mpegs are typically too big for your recycle bin two we can clean them up easier.

The videos would still be shown with the status recycled. In the postprocessing.bat you call the recycler. The recycler checks to make sure you have a minimum amount of free space if you do not it will delete the oldest file in the recycled directory until you have enough free space. I like 10gigs free at all times.

Thus when I delete a show I still have it available on my system if someone wants it or I change my mind. However if the space is needed it will be deleted in a first in first out manner. Also the shows information is perserved since the show is exported first, and the comskip file is moved as well.

The drive space status bar at the bottom shows a color for the recycled directory.

Part of xrecord today the code could be donated to sub if he wants it.

I feel stupid, but how does the recycler work? The only thing I could find was a 1recycler.txt file which has a threshold (I guess that's the size of space that must be free) and a path pointing to the non-existing directory c:/recycled
Perhaps it's just as simple as manually creating the c:/recycled directory to get it working...

You have to rename 1recycler.txt to recycler.txt

Make sure that the main recording drive is on the same drive as the recycler directory otherwise when you delete they will not get copied into it but will be deleted. Ie.

I write to
f:\movies

my recycler should be
f:/recycler

that is all you have to do to get xrecord to start sending things to the recycler directory.

and then call the recycler.exe from postprocessing.bat and postupdateepg.bat
to run the check.

I would also recommend adding a path to the recycler directory in xrecord video path so you will see recycled videos.

How does it work behind the scenes?
