I have a Pace 1000 NTL box, can a red-eye serial be used directly with gbpvr, or would i have to get myself a UIRT and a red-eye IRDA convertor?

As far as i can tell, the red-eye serial plugs directly into the PC via serial port and provides the NTL IR codes directly, while if you want to use an UIRT you have to also use a red-eye convertor as the UIRT does not supply the correct codes for the NTL boxes.

Obviously just using the red-eye serial would be the better solution as (a) it only needs on thing buying. and (b) my PVR PC is going to be in a totally different room to the STB, and a serial cable can run this distance easilly

There is no built-in support for it, but you may be able to get it working by configuring it as an .exe channel changer (if Red-Eye support command line channel changer utility).

Although I haven't had time to test it yet, still waiting to purchase my decoder card, you could try the cmdline2.zip at the bottom of the red eye serial download page, and use that and the .exe changer in GB-PVR as Sub suggests.

I am already using the red eye serial to control my PACE box via Girder and NetRemote on my PDA which works well but have yet to add GB-PVR to the mix
