Ive had NextPVR on my 8yo NUC PC with a 55" TV for years and has been fine (all through Kodi). I got a 85" TV and started getting bad micro stutter. Have now got a new Mini PC and still getting micro stutter. Not as bad as before but still enough to be annoying, just doesn't look 100% smooth like it use to or compared to my actual TV. all other media plays fine with no stutter, its just the TV stuff

Have googled as much as i can but it still remains.

played files in VLC and it a touch better but still there. also played just through the NextPVR program and still there

im out of ideas now and asking to see if there is something ive missed that needs changing.

done a Kodi log if that helps anybody, watching live tv

The reality is that with a digital tuner, the recording just be an exact copy of what the broadcaster sent. ie, NextPVR isn't encoding the video itself or anything, so no opportunity for it to mess up anything about the recording (or live tv signal). What you're describing must be a playback issue.

When it comes to viewing in kodi or vlc, the playback is done entirely by those applications. It could be something about your video card settings, or the TV causing playback to look crappy?

Viewing the web app is the only scenario when NextPVR is re-encoding during playback.

ok so i just recorded something and it was the usual micro stutter. I then copied that recording to a usb and stuck it into the TV directly to play off the USB and it was smooth!

So it must be a setting with the graphics card on the PC? Thats annoying cause the PC plays any other media fine so it must be having issues with the .TS file type that nextpvr records in?

Kodi has no problem with mpeg-ts files, I expect there are many 1000s of users playing mpeg-ts daily. You need to post you Kodi debug log on the Kodi forum (don't post in the NextPVR sub forum) Linux clients can be difficult to configure though and I see you aren't using h/w and perhaps playing 25/50 fps @ 60hz is your issue.

Yeah use to work great before I got the bigger TV. Thought the new PC would fix it.

Seems weird that the PC plays all other file types fine with no stutter.

I tried all different re fresh rates from 25-60hz but still doing it.

What is "h/w" ?

Hardware. Right now you aren't using h/w decoding so you might want to turn it on.

ok so from a quick google hardware is basically "Hardware acceleration" ? is that right?

and is that for windows, graphics card or kodi? or all of them, I cant find the setting for windows or the intel graphics. There is a "low latency" mode in the intel settings but that doesn't fix it.

I usually have hardware acceleration turned off in kodi due to the issues it causes. I have tried it again a few times in this situation and still stutter, but also random pixelating and then goes green screen and freezes kodi. so unfortunately i don't think that is going to help in kodi at least.

I did try using the Media player that came with the K-lite codec pack and it works! no stuttering. and it has "H/W" in the corner of the player. so now how do i get Kodi to use H/W without turning on hardware acceleration? good that i know it can be played without stutter, annoying that H/W in kodi doesn't help with it but makes things worse.

i should start a thread on the Kodi forum now as this seems like its that side of things instead of nextPVR. Thanks for your help!

Does your new 85" TV allow NextPVR or Kodi clients? I'd also try Kodi v22 it will be better with newer PC's.

I'm not sure about the TV allowing those clients.

Tried the Kodi 22 nightly build but still same issue.

I'm trying to get Kodi to use the MPC-HC as an external player cause they play fine in that player

Have got it to recognise the player as an option but won't actual open the player. Will need to get onto the Kodi forum for that too.

I really appreciate your help considering it's clearly not a nextPVR issue.

I've got a brain injury and this stuff really takes it out of me so it's good to have people helping.

I doubt Live TV and in-progess will play with an external player, they need Kodi trick play.
