Some time ago, I complained about this, saying that every time Microsoft did an update and automatically rebooted, that the recorder stopped working. It was suggested to disable "Scan devices at startup," and that appeared to fix the problem (everything else is set to default). However, this last time the problem showed up again. After restarting the service, it started working again. Any more suggestions as to what I should do to fix this issue? It hasn't happened often enough yet to see if the problem has come back permanently, or if it's intermittent. I attached a screenshot of the error and log files.

The message is wrong, it can't always tell why something isn't recorded.

In this case it was because your tuner driver somehow weren't working earlier today.

I see. This points to Microsoft update somehow disabling my tuner, or breaking the loaded driver. Do you know of any workaround for this? Once I tried to use task scheduler to alert me if there had been an update and reboot, but I couldn't get it to work. Is there anything you could suggest for me?

Why not change Windows update settings ? You can stop automatic updates and have it notify when an update is ready for installation and allow you to choose when to install it.
