Hello Community,

I'm planning to migrate from Windows to Debian and want to setup my two Hauppauge HDPVR2 capture devices on the new system.  I have two devices that show as attached in Device Manager.

When I add them to my Debian 13 install, they are correctly identified as Hauppauge, but no driver gets installed and NPVR cannot see them.  Does anyone have any experience with these in Linux that might be able to help?

TIA

Jason

There is no native Linux support for the HDPVR2 and NextPVR doesn't support any HDPVR or Colossus device directly so you will have to use something called a Extras device which you will need to configure yourself.

If that doesn't scare you maybe search the forum for posts I have made about the jpoet driver.  Of note not all HDPVR2 devices will work on Linux, you will need to recompile the driver with a patch I linked somewhere and you are own getting AC3 to work.  I do have this setup and it is very stable, I a talking months of uptime, but I think most users HDPVR should stick with Windows.

Thank you Martin.  I'm a bit scared and very determined to move away from Windows.

Are there any capture devices that work both with Linux and NextPVR?  If not, I guess I'll start down the rabbit hole.  Any advice you can offer is very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Jason

Certainly the network devices are easiest for multi platform but how do you plan on addressing IR blasting? Even with your HDPVR their IR ports only work on Windows.
