I have a problem, it's not the fault of NextPVR, but it's stopping me using NextPVR and folk here might be able to help.

When upgrading my Windows 11 23h2 installation to 24h2 or 25h2, waketimers cease to function. In other words NextPVR cannot wake the machine to start recording. But it's not just NextPVR, a simple batch file to echo to a log, run as a scheduled task with "wake to run" enabled... also will not wake the PC. Mouse & keyboard still wake from sleep, no problem there.

I've done all the usual: disabled hibernation, allowed waketimers, checked (and experimented) with BIOS settings, blah blah blah. Seriously, I've spent many hours on this. I've even gone so far as to wipe my machine (after taking a full backup) to install 25h2 brand new, fresh, out of the box. Still doesn't work. Oh, and of course for the upgraded and the new install I've tried using the manufacturer recommended chipset drivers and I've tried the latest Intel drivers. No joy.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX 1.0 Z790, (I've tried with previous and latest BIOS versions).

My question is then, is there anyone out there successfully running waketimers on Windows 11 24h2 or 25h2 *and* on a Z790 motherboard? Anyone at all? And, bonus question, is it a Gigabyte 'Aorus' motherboard of some flavour? Because I've spent so many hours on this and I'm wondering if I should just bin the motherboard and swap it out for some other make (problem being that I don't want to have to buy new RAM/CPU as well).
Thanks! Right, now to pen a second question...

You are not alone! In the end I gave up trying to fix and swapped to a AMD based system instead.

My Gigabyte Z790 board used to sleep/wake without a problem but stopped after a time and no amount of Bios reversion or Windows tweaking would fix it.

Sometimes it would wake up (by timer), others it wouldn't and I swapped the motherboard/processor because I needed a reliable system.

My thoughts are it's something to do with the specific Intel CPU.

That's going to be upwards of £1200 for board and CPU/fan, even if I can re-use 64GB of DDR5. I'm more likely to cobble together an old laptop or PC running linux. In fact I think that's going to be my only option for the moment.

I've not yet gotten around to my second post, which is about Hauppauge drivers and frequent BSOD (for both USB dual and PCI quad). At this point I feel like I might just as well give up entirely - and that would be a pity, I mean there's nothing wrong with NextPVR at all!

Only Windows supports any power management with NextPVR so moving to Linux won't solve sleep problems. The BSOD issue could be related to power management, leaving your PC on 24/7 would be a good test.

I strongly doubt the CPU alone is the issue.

Ah, I did not know that about linux - thanks. Still, with a low power device I could leave it on 24/7.

Yeah, I doubt it's the CPU, I'm pretty sure it's the chipset and BIOS in combination with the new power management in 24h2 and above - that's why I was wondering if anyone had it working on a Z790 motherboard. I've now got an old Lenovo laptop running 25h2 and it's waking just fine for the USB TV device. On my main PC I've gone back to 23H2 for the PCI TV card.
