On Windows the HDPVR is a DirectShow device so yes some settings could be global. The bad audio could be a signal issue especially with AC3, h264 is transcoded so video glitches could be masked so check with Verizon on the signal. If you use LPCM out and get transcoded AAC that might help a bit

I know you are adverse to using networking or a browser but you can use the NextPVR web to download recordings.

New twist:

I was doing something else and really looking forward to looking into how to use NPVR to download recordings from the DVR. When I walked into my office where the NPVR laptop is located, the NPVR UI screen was frozen. I would blame a brownout we had since my previous post, but the system is on a UPS. Simply relaunching NextPVR didn't work. Closed it and tried Capture... and we were back to no HDMI signal.

Rebooted the laptop, reset the HD PVR 2 (by unplugging and re-plugging the power cord), and power-cycled the IPC4100. No improvement.

Settings in Capture are unchanged from a few hours ago when everything was working and I could think about recording tomorrow's ALCS game on TBS.

Got a chance to check the signal going into the IPC4100. It's strong.

Will try selecting L-PCM on the IPC4100 and then AAC on Hauppauge Capture, see what happens. These are for audio, is there a chance these settings might also help Capture to, uh, capture the HDMI signal?

Today I set L-PCM on the STB and AAC in Capture. Still not getting a signal.

What's left to try?

...and today, lo and behold! Everything started working again just as mysteriously as it had stopped working two weeks ago.

I am no closer to understanding what the heck was going on than I was at the outset. But I'll take this outcome.
