OK, I admit, the title is only there to lure you into this thread :o
I intend to do some work on the automatic tuning of comskip.
Therefore I would like to receive as many as possible tuned (or simply working) ini files from you.
Please mail me your ini file and include in the mail your location and if you use PAL or NTSC. (now Comskip can autodetect the framerate its no longer visible in the ini file)
If the default ini file works for you I also would to hear that.
Other details like broadcast or cable box or other source information is welcome.
Hope to hear from you!

Hey Erik,

I use the default .ini that came with .77, but tweaked a little with the detection settings. I set it to use everything (whatever that hightest number is, I'm at work and don't have my file to look at). The only other change is to make it clean up after itself (no verbose, no .csv, no .bat).

I'm using Comcast Basic cable in Albuquerque, NM (so NTSC). These settings seem to work great on most shows. In fact, NBC is the only channel it has a problem with, and then only a few prime time shows (The Office really stands out here). In fact, it's so great at doing it that I'm surprised that a commercial doesn't get skipped when I press the "play" button when one comes on.

Well, you lured me in here =)

I run a really old version of comskip, can't even remember which one. Haven't tweaked it at all, PAL system, it's doing a so-so job. I think I read somewhere that the new versions can't be run in parallell with the show, while it's still recording? That is a feature I use use almost all the time, we tend to start watching shows a half hour after they start (why is that? Smile) If I'm correct about this, is this something that we will have to live with, or are you planning on any development on the "parallell enabled" version of comskip?

Please remember that the live_tv output generated by comskip is from the rather simple commercial detector output based on local decisions.
The global heuristics designed to weed out the last remnants of commercials but also the parts of the previous and the next show that creep in when applying pre and post padding only work when the whole show is processed.
For that reason my family only watches recorded shows and not timeshifted shows (we hate commercials, soap series and game shows Smile ) and that's the reason why I keep improving the global heuristics of Comskip.
That's also the reason why there are so many tunable parameters, your situation is most probably different from mine and I want you to get the results you need.

If you made any changes to the ini file to get Comskip working in a way you like I consider that a "tuned ini file" and I would like to receive that ini.
YOu can find my mail address by clicking on my name above this post
please add in you mail your location and broadcast source.

I use the default ini file (i've tried tuning it in the past with negligible difference) here in NTSC land, and it works 95% of the time. It trips up on some channels more than others (NBC and BBC America).

Haven't tried it concurrent with recording (in case I don't have the cpu oomph to do it and it screws up the recording).

A simple, 'top-level' tab in config, or a plug-in setting that allowed basic tuning would be cool. Do you want to generate VideoRedo files, cutteraman files, autoskip final segment (miss previews) etc etc etc....

What does anyone else think?
