I have just breifly tried this plugin, and it looks very promising. And based on reading the batch file, it seems that the video is untouched, only the audio is recoded for MVP usage. A I reading it correctly?

Does is offer you all of the movie titles to pick from on a DVD? If so, can if add a brief description of each, either bytes, duration... Some way of differentiating beetween them.

deepak - Why? cuz the mvp can't play the audio portion,AC3...which all dvd's have for audio...you can play a vob directly but there'll be no sound..
he's working on the multiple mvp's in next release...not quite there yet but it will have unique file names...
make sure you get the newest d/l, he's been updating frequently..
edit the settings.xml in the skin dir for a different root,i use UNC network paths Smile [i too have used a subfolder off of videos folder, works fine]
and it does work with iso's and folders with rips..check the docs..

Pioneer4x4 - yep,you can have it either way, either use the default-only recompress audio [it's all that's needed and exact same quality as original!] or adjust the bat files to compress both audio and video...[much slower but has ability to add subtitles and resize etc.][not perfect but very nice quality]

yes, you can select the title you want to watch from the dvd now and soon audio language and subtitles too..Big Grin there is a main title running time shown but agree individual info would be nice...
i have been working on a mencoder alternative as well, mainly just different batch files to try different encoders..trying to keep it open enough for alternatives when they come out...[ffmpeg wont decrypt dvd's or i'd try that]
next version should rock!

So, I installed VLC and all is great..Smile

However I also installed the DeamonTools so that I could stream ISO mounts. But when I attempt to open an ISO, it plays on my server...it doesn't Stream to my MediaMVP client:confused:

WEIRD!!!

Also, the DVD movies seem a bit too reddish...what gives?

I hate the fact that everything has to be encoded as MPEG...the quality degrades from DVD when it encodes as MPEG

Why does the ISO file only run from the Server machine. It doesn't stream to the Client.

The DVD folders stream just fine.

I get a lot of RED in my video stream...is that normal?

Jorm: do you have a link to any FOOL PROOF installation doc with screen snapshots for configuring an Ultimate GBPVR system?

Mpeg2 is what all DVDs are, if you only recode the audio, the picture is untouched. It remains the same quality as the source DVD.

really? Because I streamed a new DVD (In The Company) to a Sony 32" via RGB cables and the picture looked a little compressed and there was too much RED for the flesh tones. I thought this was due to the compression.

I am ripping my DVD via DVDShrink with NO Compression on the MOVIE itself.

Also, no way to access the DVD Menu huh? Only the movie itself...maybe in a future release.

Still, I cannot get the ISO to stream.

If I can figure it out, I will post a HOW TO.

Pioneer4x4 is correct, all DVDs are MPEG2 format; If I recall correctly, the only difference between an MPEG2 and a .VOB file (as found on DVDs) is that .VOB files have a maximum file size of 1GB to comply with the DVD standard.

In the default mode, XDVD does no compression/ alteration to the video stream, just the audio stream to make it MVP playable.

FWIW, we drive a Sony WEGA 32" with an MVP and if yours is similar you have a number of 'profiles' that you can set up (Sports, Vivid, Standard, etc.) that can be cycled through with the remote - as the MVP can be a little off in it's color calibration, what I did is send a test signal over the MVP and calibrated the tv to that with the MVP having it's own profile. don't if this will help, it's just a thought.

Incidentally, I cannot get .iso's to play either (DVDs play fine); everything points where it should (Daemon, drive letter, etc) and I see VLC start, count up to 150, screen goes black... then nothing. After about 30secs it crashes out to 'contacting servers'.

Still playing with it, but I'd appreciate any tips / advice. Incidentally, I have 4 separate DVD drives spread across the network; it would be nice if I could select from any of them, kinda like a poor man's DVD jukebox - is this possible? Do I just add them to the config.xml?

Dude, 4 DVD drives on the network? What a nightmare.

Just download DVDShrink and RIP your DVDs to a HD.Rolleyes

I am rippping mine to a large HD and streaming from there w/xDVD. DVDShrink lets you rip in Folder or ISO format. I chose Folder since my ISO mount is not working. You can also tell DVDShrink to NOT COMPRESS the target data. That way there is no additional compression during the Rip.Smile

HTH!Cool

We might be able to do something with multi drives.

As for failure to play isos on the mvp but they work fine on the server. I wonder if there is a problem accessing the device they are on. That is really the only difference. MVP runs as a system user the gbpvr app runs as local user. You are not using a network share are you???

If you are change the service to run as a local user.

Hi Jorm, I figured it out - I had both the .iso on C:\ root, which for some reason was causing a problem; moving this into a folder on one HDD and setting the dvd.mpg on another HDD fixed this.

The multiple drives question was just for novelty/nerd value Smile
