I know I haven't posted in forever but...I'm just now getting rather annoyed that the setting that's supposed to keep duplicate episodes from being recorded using Zap2It data isn't actually doing so. Have there been any developments on this or something I completely missed? Someone please help me cause I'm having trouble keeping straight all the new shows I'm recording. Thank you!

Each show listing that zap2it supplies has a show identifier included. If you have the dont record duplicates setting enabled, then a show will not be scheduled if you already have a recording (pending/ready) with that same show identifier. The scheme works, but its obviously only as good as the show identifiers supplied by zap2it.

So, in other words, since Zap2It's data seems kinda sucky, this feature's basically not going to work?

It usually works, but occasionally they seem to reuse codes on certain shows so you can get episodes missed etc.

Well, in that case, am I doing something wrong? Cause every reoccurring show I have set to record ALWAYS records the duplicates (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, CSI, Law & Order: SVU, Family Guy, Drawn Together, etc.)

Maybe. Email me you zap2it username and password, and I'll run some tests on one of the shows you've mentioned. Can you tell me a good one to try, preferrable one that repeats the same episode within a few days.

OK, I've logged in using the credentials you supplied. You recommended The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as a good test subject, so below below is a quick run down on what happens with that show.

According to zap2it, show identifiers that end with '0000' effectively tell GB-PVR that no episode information is available for this show, so GB-PVR has to record them all since it has no way to identify individual episodes.

It actually disabled by default. Its only enabled if you check the 'dont record duplicates' checkbox in the config app.

Out of curiosity, what exactly is happening for you with Laguna beach?
