Hi,
This week I wanted to watch a program I had just recorded. However, comskip had just started dealing with the file. This caused an error. Therefore the following:
Would it be possible to automatically stop comskip (or ask the user whether he wants it to stop) when a recording under comskip is selected for playing.
It would be nice to tell gbpvr when planning a recording whether comskip should run on the recording or not. Some shows (the news for instance) has no commercial breaks within it, so comskipping it is of not much use.

That would be nice to be able to do for an entire tv station. Certain tv stations don't have any commercials, so it's unnecessary to run comskip on shows recorded of those stations...

I guess controlling comskip would be worth it's own plugin. Not that I'd be able to write one, sorry not at all, but if someone in the know would be interested - I think that would be _very_ much appreciated by many :-).
As has been said, not only are there shows and entire channels without commercials in some countries, also, I believe, different shows and channels would work better with different .ini-settings. Such a plugin would allow to generate different configuration profiles for different channels/shows to be used automatically, or to be chosen by the user comparable to the way we can allready choose recording profiles (implying of course the option not to start it at all).

This would require comskip to allow specifying a .ini-file or a section of a multi-profile .ini-file (that shouldn't be to difficult and I think that was planned anyways) and GB-PVR to allow a user (or a plugin) to supply parameters to the command starting comskip.

This would probably not be a plugin. But rather a replacement comskip.exe to be dropped in the gbpvr directory. It could invoke the real comskip.exe

The executable would load an xml file which would contain show name and ini to use. Or a show name to exclude.

I have actually thought about writing this, since some shows have different ini settings. I have about half of the code already writen from when I was testing comskip.

The channel would be more difficult, we would have to connect back to the database and search to find the channel associated with the mpeg so we know the channel number.

If there is sufficient interest in the above mentioned solution, I will work on it.

The concept sounds very interesting, as it's independent of the application used to invoke comskip. So how would we edit the xml? I think it would be cool if it were possible to define quite general .ini-selection rules in order not to have to make an explicit rule for each individual show (in the german program-listing even serials often have a serial-number in the show name, like "StartTrek TNG no. 125&quotWink. I guess the criterion channel would be quite significant for that. We have channels without commercials or at least no commercial-breaks within a show (the non-private channels) and the others with commercials any time. But also within the later group I've found that I get consistently better results on some channels than on others. Maybe rather than having to link back to the gb-pvr-database, sub wouldn't mind offering the option of adding a channel-number to the file-name?

I'm not trying to make work for Sub, but it seems to me that running Comskip or not running Comskip should be an additional option when the recording is scheduled. It's like "Recording Once", "Season Recording",... Another option should be "Skip Commercials" or "Not Skip Commercials".

The last post (by bryan) is what I meant. This would not be that much work and be VERY handy. The other suggestions posted above would be nice. But I don't know if it has a good profit/effort ratio...
