My current setup is working well to schedule, record and play from terrestrial TV ie BBC1,BBC2 etc

What is the best/easy way to channel change a UK Telewest Digital cable box using a IR blaster?
Any hardware/software recommendations? I was thinking of Girder, not to sure about hardware though.

Thanks

Steve

Following advise, I got a USB-UIRT from the US which works great for me on a Sky box. GBPVR directly supports USB-UIRT and it only takes a couple of minutes to teach it 0-9 for the remote and off it goes. Cost me more in shipping and customs than the actual device though.

You may find some more suggestions on this thread

Isn't there something different about the IR codes used by some UK cable boxes, like they use IRDA instead of RC5 or RC6? This may cause you an issue with the devices above, not sure?

THH1200,

I use the usb redrat3 available from http://www.redrat.co.uk. At the moment it is used to control my sky digibox but it also supports IrDa-like IR signal output so that it will also work with the rather odd requirements of Telewest and NTL cable boxes.

Tech support from redrat is superb and writing a little application to be called as a .exe from GBPVR was simplicity itself.

Best of all it's a UK company so support and after-sales care is local.

Cheers

thanks

I have had a look at the USBIRT but not sure if it will handle the codes?.

the redrat3 will handle the code, but it looks as if it hasnt got a external IR output jack?

I plan to build the module in to the PC case in the 3.5" FDD space, so I need an external IR output, as I would like the PC to control all my other AV stuff as well with an "All in One " type remote.

Some more investigating me thinks !!
