Moved cards around a few weeks ago. Am fairly sure it worked since.

Looked at IRQs and there were some TV cards sharing IRQs. So I temporarily removed the Twinhan DVB-S card. Rebooted and no TV cards were sharing IRQs. Problem still remains however. Config app crashes after tuning DVB-T card completes - prior to bringing up the EPG/tuned channels setup screen.

Hopefully some kind viewer will have seen this behaviour with the hauppauge cards and be able to advise. Might try pulling all TV cards except Nova T and see if is a multiple card problem.

Update

Have restored image file of OS partition carefully stored during recent installation procedure. I went back to the brand new install with no devices installed. Pulled out all TV cards except Nova T, sweetspot and Xcard. Then tried installing an old NovaT driver. This was HCW13NovaT drivers. Installed these and the wintv app. GBPVR would not tune at all with these drivers but it did not crash when tuning was finished. So tried TV2000 and TV32 Hauppauge viewing apps. These crashed when trying to tune.

So cleared out HCW13NovaT files using Hauppauge HCWclear applet and after rebooting installed the HCW21NovaT driver set.

GBPVR tuned OK with these and I saw video in the tuning window. Then could actually see video with the watch command from tvguide. Picture was stuttering but at lkeast it played for a while. Changing channels causes a lock up. This is with the cyberlink muxer specced in config. If I try the dvr-ms muxer then the system reboots when I try to watch TV.

This must be a driver or unregistered filter issue.

Any ideas how I might try to fault find my setup.

Is there a tool which can list all registered .ax files or diagnose a dodgy setup?

As I indicated above I'm running a very clean setup of MS Windows MCE2005 with all service updates etc. I have added and registered the cyberlink CLdump.ax and mpgmux.ax files into the system32 directory and have disabled the MCE services (as I dont use the MCE app).

Any ideas?

Not really. I dont actually have Nova device, so I'm not really that aware of driver issues with these. I've written GB-PVR to work with BDA devices, but it needs to assume the BDA devices are in a fully functioning state.

Tools like the Direcshow Filter Manager from http://www.softella.com can be used to view all the filters on your machine, but I suspect your problem is at a lower level than that. I suspect you're coming up against a bug in the Hauppauge drivers.

Your system certainly sounds clean enough, but it may be more or an issue with the Hauppauge drivers not liking some other hardware you have, or the chipset of your motherboard or similar. Hauppauge drivers for analog device have had numerous conflicts with various motherboard chipsets in the past (VIA etc) - you may be seeing a similar thing with you Nova-T.

Many thanks sub. Will investigate further. I actaully have an ASUS P4P800 MB with a "proper" intel chipset. I have had problems in the past with VIA and SIS based boards and would not touch them with a barge pole.

Will report problem on hauppauge forum to see if they have any ideas.

By the way, you must have the patience of a saint. You write software, give it away for free and then get inundated with stress from people suffering from problems caused by an essentially unmaintainable OS - with problems completely beyond the scope of your software.

I think you should start charging for it soon.

Many thanks.

isn't he great !!

This is THE best htpc in the world and the support that Sub provides makes me wonder when he actually manages to get any sleep...

Found my problem was the Xcard drivers.

Chris Day from the hauppauge.co.uk forum helped me out. In the end my reboot/crash problems were caused by the Xcard.

When I removed it from my system then hauppauge nova-T works fine in GBPVR. Presumably (though I'm not really sure) the directshow filter it inserts is not compatible with the NovaT in GBPVR.

Hope this helps someone else.

Many thanks for the help anyway.
