Hello,

I've got my box up and running, and the actual Tuner playback looks awesome on my Television. I have an evga 5200 with 256mb or ram, and the video playback looks great, but the desktop and main gbpvr screen is all grainey, etc... I tried fooling around with the resolution, which I had set to 800x600 and also tried changing the antilaising settings, etc.. but it still looked like crap. Any help would be greatly appreciated to get my desktop display to look better on my Television.

Also, my Television is a Sony Wega 36" KV-36xbr

Thanks, Joe

NTSC resolution will never equal a PC monitor. The s-video out just down-samples the progresive 800x600 signal into a interlaced NTSC signal. My Geforce MX 420 does have a Flicker setting that helps with the picture though.

Thanks, but I just didn't think it would be that bad. I can barely make out the icons, etc... and the fact that the video from the tuner card is so crisp, etc... I figured it would be possible that the desktop would look at least halfway decent.

Make sure that the AV you are plugging into on the TV is set to s-video, If it is set to composite you will see a major degradation in quality.

I had the same problem and as soon as I switched my TV AV input to s-video there was a vast improvement.

However as said before it won't match the sharpness of a PC monitor , it should make it considerably less grainy.

Mine looks like crap too (not having your video card, though). Fiddling with brightness/contrast helps some. I rarely use the tv-out for accessing the desktop, though. Try using something like tightvnc to access it from another computer when you have to.
I'm not always right

Mines not all that bad...Im using a Volari V3XT....I have it set at 600x480 though lol! THe only problem is like the edges are curved somewhat..But like in gbpvr its fine or when playing videos... I'm uisng xp and i turned it to classic theme..Much easier to read! Its somewhat blurry but readable from 10ft away where my chair is

Thanks for all of the input. I'll try screwing with the settings some more. I'm not quite sure what you meant Stryder. I'm plugging in svideo out on my pc to svideo in on my Television. I switch to that connection and I can see the video coming through, it just looks like crap. I know it isn't a pc monitor, but I thought it would at least be halfway legible. I'm going to mess with it a bit and see if I can get it to look a bit better. Also, should anitlaising and anisotropic be set to anything specific? or do I just leave them off?

Thanks guys!

leave anitlaising and anisotropic off for now.

Following on from what Stryder said, it sounds like you may be receiving a composite image. This could be due to the fact that you are using one of the (3) video inputs as opposed to one of the (2) s-video inputs. (according to the manual for your tv on the sony site).

Ok, I'll leave them off.

Still confused about what you two are trying to get me to do....sorry. I'm using the S-Video cable, not a composite cable. S-Video to S-Video....I'm using my front S-video in port on the TV and the S-Video out on the PC, not any composite or rca cables. Is that what you mean? Or is there some sort of formating that needs to be performed on the PC that will tell it to send the signal in a certain format? If you are talking about cables, then I know I have the right cable in place, but if there is some sort of formatting or setting that needs to be set to change the signal coming out of the PC then I might need to do that. How do you change the composite image to whatever it needs to be?
