Hi,
This is an amended post, based on the problem I had in thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=10502 ("Newbie help?] : Trouble with snippet of looping video?"). I hope that's ok protocol for this list

In summary, my problem is that using GB-PVR I usually have to reboot after every channel change on my TV (or at least restart the GB-PVR server, and the GB-PVR recording service icon in my system tray)

The cause seems to be a snippet of video (the final few seconds from the 'previous' channel) that loops and doesn't allow the new channel to play. It also brings up an error message on my PC (when changing channels on TV)

Any help/ pointers gratefully accepted

Cheers, Mark

The error message I consistently get now is :
=========================
"GBPVRRecordingService.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
Error signature :
szAppName : GBPVRRecordingService.exe
szAppVer : 1.0.2093.28460
szModName : MpgMux.ax
szModVer : 5.0.0.727
offset : 00018fcc"
=========================

I use a Hauppauge MVP. I get the 2 to 3s video loop and error message however I change channel ...ie :

1. The "Ch" button, or
2. The EPG via the "Guide" button, or
3. The EPG via the "Menu" button

The 'crash' usually happens if total sequence of channels is >1 (ie. zero successful channel changes)

-----------------------------------------------
I have had a sequence of 2 channels (ie. 1 change). That happened when I let the original channel (BBC3) play for a longer period, of ~3 minutes. I successfully changed to BBC4 (seeing it on screen) and left that for a similar length of time; but the next intended change of channel (BBC1) gave the usual error message

While BBC3 played on screen, the 'BBC3'.mpg file kept growing in my video directory ...to ~112MB

While BBC4 played on screen, the 'BBC4'.mpg file kept growing. The 'BBC3'.mpg file did not change in size, and the GB icon in my system tray said that Nova-T was recording 'BBC3'

After the 2nd attempted change (and crash), there were 3 files in the directory : 'BBC3'.mpg (112,000kB); 'BBC4'.mpg (120,000kB); and 'BBC1'.mpg (0kB)

-----------------------------------------------

NOTE : I do NOT have the same problem on the PC

In Config -> Playback -> Software MPEG-2 Playback, I tried changing Video Decoder="System Default" to both "InterVideo" and to "CyberLink". I think both of these were an improvement, in that they let me change channel at least once

I also tried changing from VMR9 to Overlay Manager, but don't remember seeing a further difference

However, I still have the problem

On the couple of occasions where I've managed to change channels several times (before the application 'crashes'), I see a .mpg file for each channel still visible in my PC file manager. Those files should replace one another shouldn't they? ...or is there a setting for that? (ie. if I change the Live TV channel 4 times then there will be 4 large .mpg files, and one 0kB file where the final change failed. Shouldn't there be a maximum of one large .mpg?)

Thanks, Mark

PS. [When I say "3s snippet of video", I mean what I see on TV rather than a there being a 3s file visible in the PC file manager]

Is it only when you switch back to a channel you've already been watching?

No, definitely not

My testing usually involved a consistent sequence of new channels (ie. 1-2-3-4-5, rather than 1-2-3-2-1)

I had a subsequent incident today where I was watching a (single) channel, and several times there was a short disturbance on (TV) screen and the picture&sound froze before continuing (without my intervention)

When I checked the PC file manager, there were multiple .mpg files for that channel, probably consistent with the number of interruptions

Is that helpful extra information, which could be consistent with my 'channel changing' problem (and the multiple files created therein)?
