I've got comcast analog cable (Eastern US) and I record a lot of shows with Gbpvr scheduling through Xguide using zap2it for the EPG.

I found out that I can upgrade to comcast digital cable for 4 dollars per month.
I understand that with digital cable the channels are switched through the digital box that comcast provides.
If I upgrade to digital will I still be able to schedule recordings through Gbpvr as I do now?

thanks

You don't have a box today? In such case you will need to get some sort of channel changer (such as the usb-uirt) in order for gbpvr to be able to change channels on the box for you.
I'm not always right
GB-PVR 1.2.9
Accent HT-400 Case, AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 1024MB, 1TB+300GB+180GB, WinXP Pro-SP2, NVidia 7600GT
Nova-T USB2, PVR-350 recording from Dilog 355 DVB-T box, USB-UIRT (receiving & transmitting)

Well now I have a gbpvr server and we only watch recordings via an MVP. We dont watch much live tv on the gbpvr/mvp setup and use the mvp remote to switch channels if necessary.

I would just like to be able to set up scheduled recordings like we do now.
Basic / preferred (analog) cable does not require a box, for instance I just run the coax cable to the TV card in my pc. the remote and gbpvr can change channels or record of of any channel.

Maybe I am wrong but it is my understanding that if I run the digital cable from the dgital box that comcast will provide to my TV card (or TV) I will only be able to view the channel the digital box is set to.
IF that is the case then it would not be possible to set up a scheduled recording through gbpvr unless the digital box is set manually to the channel I want to record from.

right?

Actually Stefan I think you might have answered my question. The usb-uirt will control the channels on the set top box. I just found some more information on this thanks
