Hi, I recently got an Avermedia A180 HDTV card for the system in my sig. It works fine playing HDTV on some other programs. However, on GB-PVR, it is extremely jerky and unusable (however when playing lower-definition programming, such as weather sub-channels, it works fine.) I'm using the PureVideo decoder. Is there any way I would be able to fix this? Thanks
GB-PVR System: Athlon XP 1600+, Cooler Master X-Dream II cooler, Soyo K7VME KT400 mobo, 768MB PC2700, 120GB Maxtor HD, Memorex/Ricoh 2.4x DVD+RW, GeForce4 Ti4200, SB Live!, WinTV PVR150, beige Antec case, FSP 300W PSU, WinXP Pro, JVC 23" LCD TV

Your CPU is a bit on the slow for HDTV. Other than upgrading the CPU, all I can really suggest is trying different video decoders, and hopefully you'll find one that performs adequately on you hardware (I dont know if you'll find one though).

The guys with Fusion device usually use one of the two Zulu decoders which are installed with the Fusion software. One of these has the ability to utilize DVXA accelleration features offered on some video card, which reduce the CPU requirements. I'm not sure what decoder is installed with the Avermedia A180 software.

Thanks sub. I found out that my Ti4200 does not support DXVA which could help speed up the decoding. However I'm going to try to borrow a Geforce4 MX card from someone (which oddly enough does support DXVA.)

I installed an MX420 card and OCed the CPU some (to about 1.6GHz.) Now when playing HDTV in GB-PVR the video is still jerky. However the CPU usage is only about 30-40%. Any idea on what might be going on?

FWIW...I have the same problem. My system is a 3GHz P4 HT with an FX5200 video card. Playback within GB-PVR is jerky & the sound is not sync'ed. I watch the shows with WMP and it works fine, so evidently they're recording OK. I haven't played around with decoders yet...it's currently set to System Default, whatever that is.

What I'd like to find is a way to down-convert to a format that will play on the MVP on an plain old TV.

What muxer are you using, Cyberlink? Try the ms-dvr muxer if you haven't yet.

I finally got it working well! I thought I was SOL because the only program I could get it to work with well was WatchHDTV, which did not even have PVR capabilities. I was able to get it to work ok when I tried BeyondTV (out of frusturation), but even that was sorta finicky. After that I decided to try GB-PVR again. I think it was mostly that I changed from VMR 9 to Overlay, and it might have been my changes in BDA demuxer or whatever (I'm using either Hauppauge or InterVideo, can't remember which.) Now it works fantastic with about 40-50% CPU usage (Athlon XP 1600+ @ 1.63Ghz.) I am so happy that I got this working! Smile

Only problems are with the EPG/channels now.
1. How can I rearrange the channels on the EPG? They aren't in the order that I want them in.
2. Whenever I change the channels (up/down) GB-PVR locks up. How can I change this?

Thanks!

Glad to hear you got it going.

i can answer your first question: click the "chanels"-tab in config-app. you can set channel numbers there.

what do you mean with "locks up"? does it stop totally or does it take a few seconds to change the channel? gbpvr takes some time to delete and fill up the timeshift-buffer after a channel change.

Hmmm I always need to "force-quit" GB-PVR when that happens. I haven't really waited a while when doing that but maybe I will (takes extra long cause it's HDTV?) But GB-PVR does not respond to anything when it "locks up."
