The recommended minimum system has a 1GHz PIII class CPU, with 512mb RAM.

There would be very little (if any) difference.

I ran it on a 400mhz computer with windows 2000 with the xrecord plugin. It ran fine but some screens were a bit lagging (TV Guide).

I also have a pvr-350 card and use the video out so the card is doing most of the real work (I think)

It'll still run with less than the recommended minimum, but these specs give the minimum PC requirements to give what I consider 'decent' performance.

so what should i do? i have all of the stock settings and its a clean install of xp. and the card shouldn't matter here this is just goin up and down in the main menu. actually VMR9 is not supported so i had to set it to VMR7, overlay manager also works would that be better?

No amount of tweaking settings will help if you stay on that system - it'll always work like crap. Upgrade your system to include a 1GHz PIII class CPU, and 512MB of RAM, and it'll work fine.

We use GDI+ for all our graphics - its notoriously CPU hungry, and your machine just wont cut it.

Based on my experince. If it's slow on a 450mhz machine you could purhase a better hardware incoder/decoder card to off load some work off the CPU. BUT!!! if your spending money.... Better to put it to use on a faster computer. More benefits for the cost.
