I checked the wiki and I have been using the web scheduler for some time now, but I've never been able to view recorded shows remotely. When I click the play button, it asks me if I want to open a .M3U file and when I say yes, it tries to connect from within Windows Media Player, but then it will fail to connect... do I need to open specific ports for the Windows Media Player? I'm using a cable modem and Linksys router... any tips from someone that has this working correctly would be greatly appreciated!

TIA,
-Charles

The web interface's "play" feature is designed to be used with Video Lan Client (VLC). I dont think it is possible to view this with Windows Media Player.

Thanks for the quick reply sub! I wasn't aware of the VLC requirement... I just downloaded and installed the client viewer and that definitely does work better... but I'm only getting like the first few seconds of the video and then it basically hangs at that point... is GB-PVR serving the stream on the same port 7647? What should I check as a possible cause of the choking?

I'd dont know. I've never used this feature myself, and wasnt involved in the development of it.

It is a playlist, but it should play correctly in windows media player 9 or 10 - works OK for me under XP. Works on linux with MPlayer too - very cool.

Edit: to get it to work under linux you either need the mplayer plugin for xmms, or you need to make an action (in Firefox for example) associating .m3u files with a shell script. I use that, and the shell script is just:

#!/bin/sh
mplayer -playlist "$1"
