I have been using GBPVR for over 6 months now and find it great! Thanks to everyone for making this possible! I have been a previous user of Showshifter and DigiTV and GBPVR beats these hands down.

I have just built a new machine and have a problem with the video/music library. The system is on a dedicated PC with XP SP2. Hardware is Pentium M with 1Gb, 2x250Gb SATA, 2 x Nova-T USB2 and 1 x PVR350. I also use 3 MVP (2 active atm). Everything works brilliantly and the performance is excellent.

I have mapped drives on a network server that I use for MP3 and Video storage and these have been added as directories in config. When accessed from GBPVR application on the PVR PC they display fine and I can access all MP3 and video content and it all plays perfectly. However when I access it from an MVP the directories appear but have no files listed. The same happens if I access it from the web interface. When I access recordings from MVP or Web they display fine and I can play recordings. The recordings also stream well when I associate with VLC.

I had hoped to be able to access the video and music library from GBPVR as I want to use GBPVR as the core of my AV setup. I have tried numerous things and have made sure the share permissions are set as public, checked logs, tried UNC paths and mapped drives and I can't see the reasons.

Before I setup the new PC I had been using a previous PC running 9511. All of this function worked fine in that version. Before installing on the new PC I upgraded first to 9514 then to 9516 and both upgrades demonstrated the problem. I figured this may be down to the upgrade install but the clean install didn't solve the issue.

I am not quite sure why this would be happening. Before I start an exhaustive search I was wondering if anyone else had seen this or if any "inside information" may provide an insight or pointer to what the problem may be.

The web admin and MVP server runs under a different user account than when you run GB-PVR on your desktop. Try going in the Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> GBPVR Recording Service, and setting the account to your account.

The detailed fix for this issue is also found on the Hauppauge MediaMVP FAQ

except, anywhere the FAQ talks about the MediaMVP services, substitute "GB-PVR recording service". You should find one instance of that running in the list of services.

One more thing that drove me nuts for days is the need for a password. My account on my GB-PVR server was setup with a blank password, and I could not use it to start GB-PVR recording service. I created a dedicated MediaMVP user account, gave it a real password instead of blank, and that worked. A dedicated account is not required; if you already have a password on your account, use your account instead.

Lastly, be sure that whatever user account the recording servive is using has permission to read, write, and delete files and directories on all the directories it will need to access. I had the strange situation where I thought I was deleting old recordings (since they disappeared from the GB-PVR screen) but the video files stayed on the disk, until I ran out of space.
Apparently I was just modifying the data base, but not actually deleting anything.

Thanks for the pointers! That makes a lot of sense and it hadnt occurred to me that the MVP service would run with different user details. I have been caught with that on so many other apps I should have known! Just about to try it ....

That's worked for me! I am running my mvp over a wireless link and now I can listen to all the stuff in my music library. Just one question, which may, or may not, help others: do the paths for the music and video libraries have to be UNC paths for the mvp to be able to see them? I read somewhere else on the forum that it doesn't understand mapped drives...

The MVP normally runs under a different user account, so it cant see your mapped drives. UNC paths should work fine.
