In the past I've described a problem where the random slide show does not work with the MVP. I've keep playing with it because my family really likes the feature. Sometimes it would work and sometime it would not work.

Recently I've figured out that if I play music using MyMusic and then start the random slide show there is no problem. Random slide show works like a champ. However, if I try to play the random slide show and use either no music or NetRadio only the first picture is displayed. I can use either the skip or FF buttom to get to the next pic after the interval has passed.

I have no idea on how the internals of: GB-PVR/MyPictures/MVP work. But, I'm wondering what the mechanism is for the next picture to be send to the MVP for display. Is it possible that there is a race condition going on and in the random mode it takes just a little bit too long to get the next pic ready to send before the actual send to MVP happens. This is a possible explaination was to why a dedicated machine would have no problem but a MVP does.

I experience this also. Even if playing music with MyMusic, random slideshow does not advance automatically on MVP. Sad
What, me worry?

That shoots what I was hoping was a good idea out of the water. Darn!!

I guess I should have posted in MVP instead of Plugin Support. Maybe this thread should be moved.

It does seem very odd that some setups experience this behavior and some (maybe most) don't. So the obvious conclusion, as Reven has stated in the past, there is no problem in the MyPictures 3 plugin.

There must be something in MyPictures 3 which is exposing some type problem in the setups which this does not work on. Hardware throughput, network or network interface, drivers, configuration of some software. I guess this is where the challenge is in figuring this out. I've included all the details of my setup in my sig. Maybe those experiencing MyPicutres 3 random slide show not working with MVP could use this thread as a place to: say me too, describe their set up, describe if there are any conditions under which random slide show works, etc, to see if we can figure this one out.

Random slide show works if I play it on my desktop. If I play random slide show using either NetRadio or no music playing then the first pic is displayed, nothing after that. In this mode I can use the remote FF or skip but to move to the next pic after the display interval has past. When I start MyMusic first and then start random slide show then I get a new pic after every display interval.

Maybe relevant, maybe not....
A while ago I bought a Linksys 5 port switch and put the GB-PVR server, MVP and another machine on it. I did notice an interesting thing. When I play either MPEG2 files or run MyMusic w/ MyPicture randon sldie show the ports that the GB-PVR server and the MVP are connected to indicate collisions. No observable effects on sound or picture. When I play just music only there are no colisions indicted.

I was wrong. Testing confirms that random slideshow does work correctly if playing music with MyMusic. If no music is playing, random slideshow does not advance automatically, only manually. This is over MVP. All works properly in either case on computer. Hope this can be remedied.

Reven,

We appreciate whatever feedback and insight you can give us as we try to figure out this problem that some us experience. Big Grin

I started poking around in MyDatabase this evening and noticed a few things and wanted to get your thoughts:

a) In the table Image Thumbnails I have 6880 entries. This first 1072 entries are for old locations for pics. Previously I stored them on my system drive (F: for me). I expanded to a dedicated harddrive for media. When I did this I moved the pics from the F drive to the new dedicated harddrive. Should I delete the 1072 out of date entries?

b) Similar situation for the table MusicFiles. This table has 1065 entries. The first 33 I have no idea where they came from. The entries point to the MyDocuments folder for a user named Sean. There's never been a Sean user for this computer. The next 66 entries are for old locations prior to my acquistion of the above mentioned harddrive. Should I deleted these 99 entries?

yeah delete away it shouldnt hurt, but i doubt that will solve the issue.

for "Random" it doesnt do anything with the database. the database is only used when loading/updating thumbnails (well for my pictures)

those "Sean" entries might have been form my machine.....
