There are quite a few programs and utilities available on the web which can split the audio/video from a VOB file.

This might be a place to start:

@Filtergraph:

Well over at shspvr.com there are a few people haacking the mvp. Its interesting to see what they are getting it to do.

Anyway, currently what happens when you try to play a VOB in GBPVR over the mediaMVP? Maybe sub could answer that easily?

I can't get the stupid MediaMVP working correctly so i can't check this out.

Cheers,

I'm seeing a lot of the same question here that I saw in the Myth Forums. Anyway, Myth use IVTV to display the desktop etc to the Television and there was a complaint for the longest time that DVD wasn't supported etc. Recently (about 1 month ago) in the IVTV developers area an update came out that actually fixed a problem they were having with the EPG freezing and got DVD playback working. I was using mplayer and had no issues with DVD playback after I tried this update.
I just wanted to share so that everyone knows it is POSSIBLE, just no easy [Image: biggrin.gif]
...no clue how the guys did it though...

hey windsorguy13!

welcome to the forum and thanks for the info on MythTV. No one was too sure how well the commercial detection worked,

Cheers,
Colin.

Well, as many have stated, you can do anything with video under Linux.

Reason being, they have a standardized open-source framebuffer to work with. Output device doesn't support codec(s) or container of the input file? No problem, just transcode it to something else on the fly when those decoded frames go through said buffer.

And as long as they are only distributing it as source code, their use and distribution of MPEG codecs is considered 'academic purposes' under the MPEG license. Not so when you put it inside of a windows installer Wink. That's the real kicker, and the reason that Linux multimedia apps will (eventually) be able to do alot more things reliably than equivalent Windows apps can. They can modify any and everything they want to, down to the source code for the codecs and DVD player themselves. And they can distribute it as such, as source code, without getting sued Wink.
