Now I remember why I went off the dvr-ms mux. The only demux that I've got that can play it back is the nvidia one, which gives me horrendous interlace combing when played through GBPVR. If I use the same demux through windows media player it's not a problem however. The interlace settings in the nvidia system tray app are de-interlace control: automatic and de-interlace mode: best available. Any idea how I can reproduce these settings in GBPVR?

cheers

There is no demux involved when you playback a dvr-ms file. Instead, the Microsoft Stream Buffer Source splits it into its separate audio/video streams.

If you meant video decoder, then you should be able to get pretty much any of them to work.

I've found that when using DVR-MS, the systems' default decoders (possibly as set by the Windows XP Decoder Checkup Utility) are used rather than those selected in GB-PVR (on playback).

Has anyone else seen this?

Ah, right you are. I'll make sure it'll use the one you specify in the next release.

In the meantime, you can use the DECCHECK utility Chris refers to above to change the default.

sorry, i meant decoder not demux. that's the problem i was seeing though - it always used the nvidia decoder to play dvr-ms files rather that the one i'd selected in the config app.

does anyone know anything about the config for the nvidia decoder. there does seem to be a visible difference between the results i get from nvidia in windows media player and the results i get from nvidia in gbpvr. any ideas?

EDIT: found some information in this thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=12007 that might be useful. i've been seeing the same problem in that the system tray icon doesn't appear when playing from within GBPVR, so i can't check the settings

WMP, by default uses overlay. GB-PVR might be set up for VMR. VMR9 and Overlay usually support colour controls. VMR7 doesn't (some PureVideo cards allow it though). That could explain a difference.

Deinterlacing is handled differently too, at least with the nVidia decoder.
