mvp service doesn't start automatically

Hi Forum,

I noticed in previous versions of GBPVR that the mediamvp service was built into the gbpvr. However the most recent version doesn't seem to start the service automatically. I find that I must restart it manually if the computer ever gets shutdown. Is there a command line entry I can make or is there something I'm doing wrong?

There is no separate MVP service. It just runs as part of the recordiong service. Nothing has changed on this front for probably 18 months.

Yes, I too have been trying to figure out a way to startup the MVP MediaServer as a service as well and I think I may have found it. But I guess my question is what is the exact executeable with /flag that starts this server? It must be along the lines of...

C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvr.exe -?

If I can get that information, I can use XYNTService to run it as a service and it would work fine. Anyone have this piece of information?

"gbpvr.exe -mvpmode" will start an MVP server, but I dont recommend you try to roll your own service this way. The GB-PVR Recording Service has special logic for controlling MVP servers that you wont get the way you are suggesting. Specifically, it restarts the MVP server each time the MVP disconnects or if the user presses the green standby button on the remote.

Currently, I have the GB-PVR MediaMVP Server shortcut in my startup folder, which starts up when I login to the box. This is obviously not the most optimal setup if I have to reload the MVP Server.

It would appear to me anyway that using the XYNTService would accomplish the same thing minus having me login to the box. I'll give it a shot and see if it works correctly.

Another workaround would be to remove my user account pw on the box (Win XP Pro) and allow it to boot into Win XP without authentication. Not my preference, but it'll work.

Why dont you just set the 'number of servers to auto start' to '1' in the config app? This way they run as part of a service as they were intended to, and you wont have to log in?

I have also a problem with MVP not connecting after reboot, though my gbpvr.exe is started at bootup by the recording service.

In the log file (gbpvr.exe-1.log) I see that the machine did not have a valid IP address when gbpvr.exe starts. Could this be the problem? When I kill gbpvr.exe it is restarted and MVP connects (gbpvr.exe.log)

By the way, thanks for providing a patch for the intermittent MVP crash!

Thx sub. Setting the servers to start to 1 works perfectly. In fact, I removed MediaMVP Server from my startup folder altogether and it works fine.

Reconfigured my wireless setup to be managed by XP. Now the IP address is set before recording service starts, instead after the auto login. Seems to cure the problem. Maybe gbpvr.exe should lookup the hosts IP address after it received a request from the MVP, and not before it starts to listen.
