Better skin/plugin integration!

It's a shame in some ways that gbpvr is so plugin based! Whenever a new skin first comes out it doesn't support all the plugins and even if it does sometimes it will reset the settings if it writes to the plugins folder! Just spent a couple of hours messing with xguide getting all the channels sorted (Which seems a bit like a duplicate task as already done elsewhere!) then I update some skins and all the settings are gone! I know the saying if you wish to use this software then be prepared to spend some time with it but I've spent MANY hous already and quite frankly wondering how much longer it will be worth my time continuing with it. Don't get me wrong I appreciate all the effort everyone puts in especially as I can't contribute much myself although I do try and answer questions people ask if I know the answer. Would be nice to have an idea what and when Sub is adding for the next version but no one seems to dare mention it! As you can tell I'm a bit peed off right now as quite late and will probably regret saying some of this come morning but what the hell I've said it anyway!

I dont think it's plugin based. I dont personally use any plugins.

It does provide a pretty flexible plugin interface though, which has lead to lots of plugins being developed - some better supported by the developer than others...which brings with it unique problems.

I think we all recognise this can be a pain in the arse. To help problem, I've introduced some changes in the next release which will let plugins fall back to use the default skin settings if they havn't been specifically skinned for the selected skin. (of course, if you stick to the blue skin, and the built in screens, you wont have these problems)

I also dont like to say too much because I usually end putting in an entirely different set of things than I originally intended, and if someone had got there hopes up about an addition I was planning that didnt pan out, then I'd never hear the end of it. There is lots of reasons for this - I might find it was going to be too difficult, or take too much time, or something else took too much time and the lower priority feature was dropped. I'm sure you can understand.

Thanks for the reply! Was going to bed feeling a bit negative but your comments have made me feel better! We all want everything yesterday which seems to be the way in our consumer society these days! Oops mustn't get all philosophical as will only regret it later! I suppose I only use the plugins cause I want to do things not in the default program, but then suppose if there's anything you want you add it! lol. Maybe one day you'll tell us your pc spec and what settings work best for you! j/k of course Thanks for all the good work sub and all the plugin/skin writers!
