RIght now when i record stuff. I use tmpgenc mpeg editor to cut out commercials. Then autogk to encode it to xvid.

I could use comksip and comclean to edit out commercials on mpegs.. But it tends to miss stuff or call certain things commercials.

GBPVR has auto convert to xvid .. but there arnt any settings to change.. Also most tv shows are differnt as to watch Ratio they need to be encoded too. Like standard cast My Name Is Earl is 4:3... The office is 16:9 .....

Has anyone had any luck doing this all automated with out any hiccups?

no, but I am trying to convince sub to integrate the possibility to set manual commercial marks while watching. The marked pieces could then be cut of automatically by comclean...

help me to convince him..

I'll be honest with you so you dont get your hopes up too much - I'm probably not going to add this anytime soon. I very rarely, if ever, edit my recordings so its just not something high on my priority list.

From what I understand at least a few people are getting near 100% detection, enough to auto cut without editing, but my guess is that's still rare. It really depends on the stations you record, and probably where you live too. Personally I don't hold much hope that commercial detection will ever be that reliable, whether it's with SA or comskip. However, the 90%-95% accuracy I get now is still great.

As far as automatically converting to xvid, there's some great work being discussed in this thread. With the batch file they've been enhancing you can use PostProcessing.bat and use the channel number to decide whether and how you want to encode, or dirmon and all the logic you can put in there to decide which files you want to auto-encode. Also, I may be dreaming but I think sub may have somewhere mentioned having an encode on demand option (vs. the auto option we have now) in gbpvr in the near future. There's a whole lot of good work going on in this area, and there's are other threads discussing options I haven't tried yet either.

Hm, so this sounds as if You were creating gbpvr for personal use only...
And perhaps You just do not edit Your recordings because it is so time consuming...
Anyway I will try to convince You. i just beg that You visit the http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=12729 Manual Commercial marks Thread...

Yes, its been created for my personal use. The "only" bit probably takes things too far...I know I'm not the only user of GB-PVR, but its definitely designed to work the way I want to use it.

I pretty much record shows, watch shows, then delete the shows at some later point. If I'd been the type of person that archives shows, then we probably would have had video editing and DVD burning built into GB-PVR by now, but this hasnt really been something I've needed to do.

Dont get me wrong. I have been following that thread, and I think it is a reasonable feature request, and can see it would be useful for quite a few people, but unfortunately I've only got limited time and there is lots of other higher priority changes I've got to work on first.

Don't want to really belay this but I have a somewhat hack with minimum changes...

Zoom player has a manual commercial mark. If GBPVR were modified to read a zoom player cut file as well then we can manually mark commericals using zoom player. Alternative is a cut file to comskip output converter.

So I guess the flow would be:
record
make cut file using comskip or SA
watch show using zoom player and manually mark commercials
from now on you can watch using GBPVR with manual marks

Hope I help more than hinder Smile

Thynk You sub for the explanation. I 100% can understand Your reasons and I will accept it!
As You want gbpvr to meet Your wishes, I am trying to do the same (with the difference that You have to fulfil MY wishes as You do for many hundreds of users)

Perhaps You could consider to add a very very small feature: when browsing the recordings it would be nice to press a button (go-button?) so that comclean or a similar program will run on the show the curser is on.
Done like this it would be possible to check the commercial marks and then remove them.

my main goal is to use gbpvr ONLY with a remotecontrol. that is why jam_zhou's approach would not match to my wishes.

Personally, I'm hoping for a configuration option that would allow us to create a menu of commands we can run on any particular file, on-demand or if specified while scheduling a recording, after the recording completes. This way we could do a one-time transcode, correct a broken timeline, re-run comskip or do whatever else we want all from within gbpvr.
