None of these were or are issues when running gbpvr on the server itself - wmv always played fine to the end.
FWIW, I transcode at 900kbps. It won't be a problem on the gbpvr server itself as there's no transcoding, it will just read the file using the appropriate codec.

re: my last post, I spoke too soon. Re-encoding the wmv's improved performance but did not resolve the issue completely, particulrly if I play different wmv files then re-play the first ones. Even if the file played through the first time, it is liable to blow up the next time. In all cases failure occurs
after about 10-30 sec's of playing.

I tried:
changing the mvp preplay delay and it made no difference,
changed ffmpeg bitrate from 2400 to 2000 made no difference
tried without ffmpeg, no help
changing decoders, no difference

You said
Quote:FWIW, I transcode at 900kbps

are you referring to encoding rate to create the wmv or some other parameter of the transcoder you run with mvp? Which transcoder do you use?

BTW, it seems that all my wmv's play fine with the MVP software. Is there any way to call the MVP software from within gbpvr without terminating it and starting mvp "media player" ?

Have a look at this thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ght=padtop

I'm specifying a bitrate of 2400 there but use 900 when encoding a file to keep because of a file size limitation of 1GB that libavcodec library seems to have.

I fudged a few other bits including deliberate odd size to stop the MVP auto zooming a quarter frame video size to full screen so that I could then nudge the video down and add a top black bar padding to bring the 16:9 video back to the correct proportion on screen.

You need to have a play and see what works for you Smile

As to your other question, there's a new thread on that today http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=14064. If that works for you, go for it but I'd rather have it all work within the same interface. It has less ability to confuse the wife, children and babysitter although the latter two have had no training and have no problems already Smile

Thanks. I had seen both threads. The first has not resolved the troubles I described and the second, I agree with you, has the disadvantage of changing interface. Yet a change of interface is a small price for something that works. Part o fthe reason I want to use WMV is because I can get 10x the stored volume of videos as compared with mpeg. If there is another way to achieve the same result, I am open to alternatives
Thanks for your help
