Some folks appear to be having the rather annoying problem of downloading files attached to Forum Posts using Internet Explorer, only to find they are corrupt.
The problem: Downloaded files, even if downloaded as a .zip file (i.e. with that extension), simply won't open (with MS's built in zip-opener) ... (i.e. you get the "The compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted" message).
The possible solutions:
A. Easiest: Use a Download Manager e.g.
1. http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm (free) or
2. http://www.getright.com (not free)
These utils will intercept IE's downloads and give you a nice CLEAN non-corrupt file, provided you save them to your desktop (or wherever) and make sure you enable the "intercept click within IE" options in either (both should be automatic on install). I have tested both these progs work. Other download managers MAY also work.
Open the zip file as normal.
OR
B. Two-Step Extraction (I should have been a dentist)
Using IE, download the zip file to your desktop (SAVE AS, do NOT open), THEN open the downloaded .zip file with a program like:
1. WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm (Trial))
2. 7-ZIP (freeware) http://mesh.dl.sourceforge.net/sourcefor.../7z432.exe
3. WinGZ (freeware) http://www.simtel.net/product.php?url_fb...page=63053
other (free or otherwise) ZIP progs MAY also work....e.g. WinZIP
and extract the (normally SINGLE) file to your desktop, then RENAME that extracted file to a .ZIP file extension (if it is not already one), you can THEN use MS's built in zip-opener (or 7-Zip e.g.) and see all the correct files in THAT new zip file (i.e. a two-step process).
I tried a couple of other free progs, SimplyZIP didn't work like WinRAR, nor did FreeZIP. For WinGZ you will need to give the file that WinGZ extracts a .zip extension, then open that file again. The freeware "7-Zip" ALSO works, but extracts a rather nondescript file called "Content", which you then need to rename to (e.g.) Content.zip (i.e. add the extension) and then you will be able to double click that file and extract the ACTUAL files.
OR
C. Simply use a different Browser to download the file
e.g. Firefox does not have this problem.
The above solutions (A) and (B) are for IE users only.
OR (sub's solution)
D. Disable HTTP1.1
Try disabling HTTP 1.1 in your IE settings. (Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab, uncheck "Use HTTP1.1")
Hopefully this will help other folks out.

Thanks to djtaylor for making me think about this and try a few things out!
