I finally got round to trying standby mode with the new 0.96.08 release (great job, by the way, upgraded without any issues), and it seems to work fine. That is to say, putting the PC into standby from GBPVR works, and the PC seems to wake up at the right time and record stuff.

What I want to know is, can it somehow be made to go back into Standby afterwards?

Also, when it comes out of standby, the screen (TV-out on my ATI radeon card) is blanked, and won't come back to life unless I hit a key on the keyboard. Pressing remote buttons (Haupage 150 45-key remote) doesn't work, it has to be a keyboard key. Anybody have any idea why its like this (maybe just video drivers?) and if there's anyway to get it back to life?

you make the pc go into standy by setting the power options in windows control panel. set standby to something low (5mins?) if you want it to go to sleep asap.

blanks screen: I have a 9600 and 9600pro that both work just fine, so it should be fixable. It may be the drivers, so you try updating them 1st. It is worth getting the latest ati drivers anyhow if you have a crt tv as you can set resolution to exactly match your tv.

Does the screen wake up if you move the mouse?

Ah, of course! But how do you ensure it only does this when GBPVR is no longer recording? I've not really played with all this power-mgmt stuff yet, sorry I'ma bit clueless here... Rolleyes

I'll try the drivers first, and yes, I'm pretty sure it does wake up if I move the mouse.

Thanks!

This is standard Xp power management behaviour, see my post in this thread for an explanation.

Still trying to get my remote to bring the screen back to life though....have some ideas to play with but not tried them yet.

humm, it's odd that we don't all get this this problem if it is standard xp behaviour.

Assuming you have definately got "turn off monitor" disabled in power options (sorry!), is it perhaps anything to do with how the recording service is started (user credentials) and/or how we have xp logins setup (I have a user called john with admin rights and use tweakxp to autologin as this user)

I'm glad i don't get this problem - it must be very annoying!

I have a similar problem returning from standby --- the USB-UIRT gets lost when the system resumes. I believe this is an XP problem as it happens on my system in the office, it seems to lose some or all of the USB devices when it resumes from standby (oddly sometimes it's one of the USB devices like a camer, other times it everything on the USB.) An XP and/or hardware problem.

Have you seen ths site?

http://www.usbman.com/WinME%20USB%20Guide.htm

particually the section that says

USB Device Stops Working or Won't Resume

WinXP by Default turns off USB Root Hubs to Conserve Power causing some devices not to resume correctly after Windows resumes from sleep, hibernation or computer inactivity

In the Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers > USB Root Hub > Power Management, Uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to conserve power. "

I think gbpvr has a wake.cmd file that will execute when it returns from standby or hibernate that you may be able to restart whatever service is not responding. Try adding something like this:

@ECHO OFF
sleep 10
C:\Progra~1\something\blah.exe /shutdown
start C:\Progra~1\something\blah.exe /minimized

Have a look at this thread.

Sorry now i look at it again it was rather a sweeping statement wasnt it lol:o i should have said, 'given a certain set of circumstances/drivers etc'...

Ive the same user/admin style as yourself, and my remote resumes the system from standby, so it gets power, and it blinks when im trying to brng life to the screen, so the signals are being received just fine. Im fairly certain its down to the driver im using, its the 3rd party one for the MCE remote from the HIP website. when i changed from the eHome driver the power management tab disappeared which makes me suspicious. Or my HIP configuration might be wrong...time to play i guess!
