I taped a SportsCenter and want to send a bit of the video to someone, but don't want to send it full sized. Comskip runs normally and works for me, I think it just didn't work because SportsCenter might have thrown off comskip. Anyway, how can I compress if comskip doesn't run first?

The script compresses the video with or without comskip first running. Dirmon is setup to look for the edl file. If you want to compress a video without creating an edl file, just drop the video on the script. Otherwise you can create a blank file and call it program.edl.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Dropping it on the script worked.

Just downloaded everything and started up my first trial runs tonight, so nothing is finished... but here are some initial problems I encountered.

1) The site for comskip http://mk.kaashoek.com/comskip/ is unavailable... does anyone know if there is another site where I can download this program?

2) When I download mplayer from http://www.aziendeassociate.it/cd.asp?dir=/mplayer, I get an error when I drop the mpg on the bat file that says mencoder cannot find intl.dll

3) When I download mplayer from http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html the whole process starts (and is currently running), but I did receive the following error messages: (in BOLD)

What build did you dl? I'm using 11-23.

Most of those error messages are standard but the codec ones should be cleaned up with the 11-23 build. It looks like the transcode was working but it couldn't figure out how long the original file was. Perhaps a timecode issue. It got to about 101 min accordig to your logfile.

I would suggest getting the 11-23 build, setting the script up in test mode, and then droping your file on it. You should get a 1 min file you can check for errors/quality. I'll also find the dvd script you PM'ed about.

Somehow I grabbed the older of the two mplayer builds... thanks. The new build, 11-23, worked no errors, but I'm not sure about the output. In the script directory it created an mpg file, but in the portable directory it created an mp4 and a thm file. I got an avi file out of the build I downloaded from mplayerhq... What am I doing wrong?

It looks like it's using the psp profile. Either set the script to use the STANDARD profile or another of your choosing.

Hope that helps.

Is there any way to set up the script to check the size of the file and set a target 2-pass sized based on this information. I'd like to use 2-pass to get the best possible size to quality ratio, but don't want to fool with changing the size each time I encode. Since the files are pretty constant size per length, this seems like a possible way to set this up. Anyone tried something like this?

I just sent -stattik- a couple script modifications that will automatically set the target size based on the size of the file that you are encoding. He is evaluating the code now. If he likes it, he may add it to his script. If not, I will be happy to post the code for individual use.

Hi guys,

I'd like to set this to run right after a show is recorded but without using dirmon, is this possible? Can I use one of the .bat files that run after a show is recorded, and how do I go about doing this?

Also, is there any progress on the target size being based on the origional size of the file? This would be great for having like half our shows encoded to 175, hour shows to 350, and movies to 700.

Thanks

Just rename the script postprocessing.bat after setting it up. It will work fine.

I'm working on the target-size script that unixdude wrote. I hope to finish it soon.
