Transcoding dvr-ms to DivX and recording to Mpeg2

Hi, I just found GB-PVR yesterday and have to say it's absolutely great. I've struggled for so long with different PVRs that I was amazed at how easy it was to setup and have this working inside of 5 mins. It picked up my Nova-T card, scanned my channels and downloaded the DVB-EPG automatically.

I have a few beginners questions though.

1. My programs seem to be recording an a format called dvr-ms which I've not come across before. As these are pretty huge files I'd like to transcode them to DivX 6 but using GBPVRConvert.exe it starts converting and then crashes after about 20 seconds.
   
2. Can I save to MPEG2 by default instead of dvr-ms?

Try xvid instead of divx. The conversion to divx is the most temperamental of the conversions offered.

Yes, but you'd need to install the Cyberlink Mux filter.

I am not sure that dvr-ms files are much/any bigger than mpeg files. Both are obviously larger than divx files tho.

GBPVRConvert is a fairly new addition to gbpvr. Search the forum for threads that talk about it. You will see than converting to divx is very flakey atm and you would be better off sticking to xvid.

Converting to divx/xvid can take a long time and you really need to Pentium 4 or perhaps an A64 to be able to convert in a reasonable time.

Installing the biggest HD that you can afford helps.

How do you set gbpvr config to convert dvr-ms to mpeg?
I tried to use cyberlink mux to do this real-time but it basically overloaded the CPU 2.4 GHZ.
Is there any other way?

You have something wrong if that's the case or I don't understand what you're trying to do!

In the Misc tab of config, choose cyberlink as the mux (but you must have the cyberlink mux installed seperately!) Then you'll be saving mpg files instead of ms-dvr files anyway and the load on the processor will be next to nothing.

gbpvr has an autoconvert feature so all you need to do is configure that in the app to convert during specified hours and choose the conversion of your choice. You can customise the conversion parameters by editing the settings for the ffmpeg conversion in config.xml.

No idea.

I have the thmpeg.mux.ax and that works fine, as does the Show Shifter mux. You could try that one, download and install show shifter then just ignore it but choose the SS mux as an experiement. It will write mpegs for you.

Did someone look into DVRMSToolbox?
It contains a DVR-MS to MPEG2 converter
